agp HELP!!!! im soo confused

ok. I am accustumed to just using a regular video card, nothing fancy. I knew nothing about agp, whatsoever. Im not sure if it will be compatable with what, so i could use some help.

(the only reason i am trying something new is because i dropped my old computer down the stairs and it got demolished. And then my dad said something about agp, so i looked into it but im really confused and im getting new parts for my new computer in a couple of days and im not sure if it will be compatable with it all)

agp works with basically anything new. just make sure you stick it in the right slot....(the brown (usually) one closest to the middle of the board and the cpu.)

well, since im a complete noob to all of this agp stuff, does it go in place of a video card, or enhances it.

well i know that, im jsut talking about agp, ive made my own comp before )the one i dropped down the stiars

The AGP slot is a different interface than a PCI slot. You will have to get an AGP video card to utilize the AGP slot. (that?s assuming you have an AGP slot on your motherboard)

The only difference as far as building it then is the connector looks a little different. Its hard to find a mobo without agp or a video card that isnt agp so its not too hard.

When you said you were a complete noob, i assumed the worst....

ok i think ive got it (tell me if im wrong ) i need a agp compatable motherboard (which i already have), a agp video card also, and agp itself.

no no... ive built comps before, but not in the agp section. LoL.. you were telling me what a mother board was....

the first two are right...

agp is just the standard. like pci. or usb or anything like that. its really as easy as plugging it in. maybe itd just be easier if you point out exactly what youre going to use.

its not as complicated as i thought! when i used to buy vc i never payed attention to agp compatable or whatever, cause i didnt care. So even though most video cards are compatable, are most newer motherboards compatable?

unless its a brand new lga intel board with only pcie, or a big server board, then yes, they are all compatible.

well we are not sure on what to get yet.. im not sure if im gunna get a new processor jsut yet, but i could get a amd +3000 (overclocked a little to about 3200) and asus mb

youre fine. all amd mobos have an agp slot. just make sure the vc isnt pci or pcie (theres not many of either of those) and youll be fine.

Not to be rude, but should someone that knows nothing about basic agp be building a modern computer? You may want to study a bit and get recommendations on any SPECIFIC components first. Im not trying to be rude, just honest.

I agree. But i went ahead and answered his questions. Also not trying to be rude 😀

i usually ignored that, and people told me of it when i went to buy my hardware, but i never really payed any attention. maybe i should listen better next time
