Any suggestions for this build I scraped up from parts lying around the house? Building it for my friend so he can play WoW. The only thing he has to buy is an AGP card. I suggested an AGP 128MB 6600GT for about $100.

Would it be worth buying a more expensive Video card? His max budget is about $200 for a video card.

Here are the stats:

ECS - 848P-A (V2.0) Motherboard

INTEL 2.2 Ghz (socket 478 - 400 FSB)
APEVIA X-Infinity Case: (w/generic 420 watt)
1 Gig Ram ? pc3200 (512x2)

Thanks

For WoW? Probably not. 6600GT should be able to play that easy peasy. If he really wanted to he could shell out a little more for a 6800XT or an x8xx.

I'd go for the 6600GT and save the rest for a new PC fund.

what resolution does he game at?

mid details ok or 'high'?

a $200 x850xt will be ~ twice as powerful as a $100 6600GT . . .

edit: IF you can find one . . .

other contenders would include the 6800GS

Mid-range eye candy

A little AA

then the 6600gt will be 'sufficient' for WoW, i believe

if he wants 'more' - including current and near-future titles, he should look at higher performing cards 6800gs to an x850xt. Perhaps he can consider 'used'.

6600gt\6800gs\7600gs\7600gt or maybe a 850XT (or AIW variation). Still plenty of AGP options.

I run WoW at lunch at work on a 5900 @ 12x10.
