AGP Dual-link DVI cards

I've spent the better part of two days trying to find an AGP card for the PC with a dual-link DVI port. So far, the ATI 9600 Pro PC/Mac edition is the only one I've found that is AGP and definitively has dual-link DVI. The problem generally stems from inconsistency between ATI/nVidia specs and the card manufacturer's specs. For example, sometimes it seems that "Dual DVI" is used (incorrectly) in place of "Dual-link DVI". Other times, I hear things like "All model X cards support dual-link DVI", but the specs for model X cards don't back that up. Still other times I'll see several posts that say a card is compatible with, for example, the 30" Apple LCD and then when I read the specs of the card it won't mention anything about dual-link DVI. So, I'm confused.

Can anyone please post AGP cards (not just product lines but actual cards) that are known to have at least one dual-link DVI port? A link to specs and to a retailer who sells the card would be great too. At some point, it might be nice to keep an up-to-date list of all cards that have dual-link DVI ports, AGP and otherwise, in a FAQ somewhere.

And yet again, as if it hasn't been said already: Dual DVI is not the same thing as dual-link DVI.

Yea, is the XFX 6800GS dual DVI or dual-link DVI? All I see is dual DVI on XFX's spec page. On the other hand, I've seen many contradictions between pages with regard to card specs.

I can't remember that any commodity VGA chip even had the technical capabilities for dual-link DVI - before the 7800 and ATI's X1000 series turned up.

Matrox might have had something for longer, so you might want to check there. Beware of drivers.

I think the GS might be dual DVI only.
The one reviewed at Guru 3d is only single DVI.
Have you decided on a card yet?

I'm going to try the Sapphire Radeon x1600 Pro, which should arrive tomorrow. Hopefully those sites that listed it's specs as DVI-I are incorrect and those that listed it as dual-link DVI are correct. I'll let everyone know tomorrow. Thanks for the advice.

I believe all x1600s are supposed to have dual-link DVI (at least one; the X1800s have two dual-link DVI outputs).

The only AGP cards I'm aware of that have it are some Matrox cards, and some of the FireGL/Quadro boards (and you can't just mod them; you have to actually get the workstation parts).

Huh. Don't know when ATI came out with that one; the original 9600Pro definitely didn't have dual-link DVI.

According to this, max res for the Sapphire card is 2560x1600. No way it's doing that without dual-link DVI :) And for 50 dollars less than the Radeon Mac & PC (per pricewatch.com) it seems ideal.

My Sapphire Radeon x1600 Pro AGP arrived today and it drives my Dell 3007WFP beautifully without a hitch. Thanks for the help everyone.

So, for the record, this card is AGP w/ dual-link DVI, supports 2560x1600, for $150. Great deal for anyone else out there with AGP and wanting to drive a 30" screen.

For some reason the specs on the box said _both_ "DVI-I" and "DVI Dual-link" in two different places. I thought that the two were mutually exclusive but I guess not.

Where did you buy the Radeon x1600 Pro with AGP, and for how much? Newegg.com doesn't seem to have it...

I have a BFG 6800GT (AGP) which I bought for $350+ in summer 2004, but it cannot drive the 30" Dell at highest resolution. How is the overall performance of the ATI x1600 against the 6800GT? Would it be worth getting the x1600 to drive the 30", or should I just cut my losses now with AGP and start off with a new system that has PCI-Express and get a newer high-end card?

the card is not as powerfull as the 6800gt. if you want that res and stay with AGP its the only logical choice. otherwise go with PCIe

I wonder how ATI feels about one of their partners underselling them, given that the Sapphire is 50 bucks less than the 9600 Mac & PC Ed.

they are not underselling them for the mac.
