AGP Driver

After I finsh installing XP Pro. I can install all of my drivers, all of my motherboard drivers, and everything will run fine ( I've actually been running for 2 weeks now, with slow video ). If I ever install my AGP driver ( which is included with the rest of my mobo drivers ), once I restart, my monitor goes off, and my computer reboots. Sometimes my computer won't reboot, but my monitor will just say "out of frequency", and go off.

I'm running:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
SOLTEK SL-K8AV2-RL
1 WD 7.2k 40GB
1 Seagate 7.2k 200GB
ATI Radeon 9600XT

Does anyone know how to fix this? Or what the problem could be? I've tested the video card on other PCs, and it works fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. 🙂

Your refresh rate may be set too high for your monitor. Perhaps you can get in in safe mode and reset it?

There is also an option with XP to start in plain VGA mode if you press the F8 key fast enough during boot. Perhaps you can get in to windows this way and reset your refresh rate.

Welcome to the Forums!

Perhaps I'm misreading (or unimformed), but I've never seen or heard of the vid card drivers being on the mobo/chipset driver disk. There are two AGP drivers, one for the mobo and the other for the vid card.

Anyway, the drivers on the original disk are usually outdated. Go to the Soltek site and get the updated mobo drivers. Then go to ATI's site and get a newer CAT driver, at least the 4.9's.

You got DX9 in there too?

No No. I meant the AGP driver for the motherboard is on the disk. Along with the USB, Audio, etc. I can install all the rest with no problems. I have DX9 installed as well. I'm going to try and install my monitor drivers, then install my AGP drivers, if it doesnt, i'll try to boot in safe-mode, and change my refresh rate, and such. Thanks, I'll post back if it doesnt work. 🙂

The website for my monitor seems to not have any drivers, and I don't think it came with a CD. It's a Nu QL-711V. I'm getting the latest drivers for my chipset at www.viaarena.com.

About the refresh post, once I go into Safe-Mode, I can't change anything dealing with my video. It's just all blank.

I dunno man, maybe I've been missing something. But I only had one monitor that had it's "own" driver. It was a 22' Viewsonsic Professional series (that was one bad a$$ monitor). Anyway, I never noticed a diff with or with it's driver. So I'm just using the MS reference driver.

Last monitor I bought (about 5 months ago) didn't come with any driver disk either.

Which Cat driver you been trying to install? The one on the disk? If so, go to ATI's site and get the 4.9 or 4.10 (I'm wondering if maybe the mobo driver is newer than the vid driver you've been installing, and therefore causing probs-Just a guess though).

which monitor is it? Try setting the resolutions to 640*480 in the safe mode. the n restart. Does it work in 640*480 or 800*600 mode. Let me know
