It depends on how much you want to spend..6600GT, 6800GT, 6800ultra, AGP version of X800(haven't paid much attention to the ATI cards, so I'm not sure which model of x800 is agp).

ATI x800xl is about as good as a 6800GT, but the 6800GT is cheaper now if you find a Hot Deal ($300).

I'd get the 6800GT, the Ultra is a waste of money unless you insist on running games at 1600x1200. If "only" 1280x1024 is acceptable for some games then why pay more?

no i don't intend to play at more than 1280x1024....that's all i need...gotta check if the 6800gt comes with video in.

It's a nice card but not the best. x850 xt platinum is just a hair faster than 6800 ultra.

I have no complaints about my X800 Pro, I imagine that the X800XL is a really nice card, too. Especially with 16 open pipelines. If you don't need (who does?) or want (we all do) SM3.0 the X800XL is an extremely viable solution. I saw them for sale at my local BB for $349.

Yes, the x800 XT Platinum Edition is avalable natively in both AGP and PCI-express.
x850 XT Platinum- AGP

x850 XT Platinum- PCI-express x16

the agp card is too good..got what i need...for playing and capturing as well..the price is a bit hot though..well will have to shell more $

I think the confusion stems from when you say "best" --- you dont mean the absolute best... you mean the best for <$400

anything above a 6800gt/x800xl and you're starting to waste money.... eg. would you pay $100 extra for 5-10 frames?

you'd better be wearing a belt cause upgrading from a 9200se to a 6800gt will knock your pants off :p

For video capture, consider a stand-alone Hauppage PVR-150 for $70-90. It has hardware MPEG2 / DVD encoding that's more reliable than the mostly/completely software-based encoding of video-in on graphics cards.

Or if you're not picky about quality, some $20-40 software based TV card.

Second that. Anything that you upgrade to over $200 will blow you away as far as gaming improvement goes.

Did ya'll notice that one of the review writers for that X850XT PE at Newegg says that he went from a 3dfx Voodoo 3000 AGP (V3 3000) to an X850XT PE? Talk about needing a seatbelt.

Also that price is up 30 bucks since yesterday. I guess if you're gonna' get it you better get it now!

The price is much cooler (less) than it's slower brother x800 XT Platinum that is selling for $650-799usd

Nice Grammer! But the x850 XT Platinum Edtion is even faster than that. The x800 is a great card but the 6800 is a shade faster in the majority of benchmarks against x800 XT PE.

I agree, but the x850 is a hair faster in almost all benchmarks. 6800 Ultra Rocks!

ATI and nVIDIA ROCK!
