I'm having a problem with my ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 drivers not working with Age of Empires 2, so I was thinking of buying a PCI nVidia geforce 5500 to play it. So my question is: is there some sort of software I can use to tell Windows what card to use or is there some part of Windows where I can tell it what to use. I have Windows 2000.

Running ATI and nvidia drivers at the same time might cause issues.

Have you installed the latest ATI drivers and any AOE2 patches? Have you checked gaming forums for tweaks to fix the problems?

Yes, I have done all that you asked. I've come to the conclusion that the only way to solve this problem is to have another video card(I know nVidia works because my other computer has one and every thing is fine). I have even asked ATI and they apparently released new drivers for the problem but it still doesn't work.

P.S.
The problem I am having is whenever I try to play the game the screen scrolls to the top.

Are you using the video-in of the ATI? If not you could get a decent AGP nvidia card instead of the 5500. Or get a good card and a TV card.

I am using the TV in, as a matter of fact I use it almost everyday. That's one of the reasons I'm looking at a PCI card.

You have a software problem, not a hardware problem. Run driver cleaner then install the latest catalyst drivers. If that doesn't work, consider reinstalling windows. Buying a new video card wouldn't even necessarily fix your problem, AOE2 is an old 2D game and should play on just about any AGP video card ever made, your 9600 should have no trouble.

I never thought is was a hardware problem, always a software problem, because after checking around on web I've found lots of other people have that problem and they all have ATI cards which must mean it's the drivers. I do like ATI and that's one of the reasons why I'd like to keep mine and just get a nVidia PCI card, that way I can have two cards.
