have sony vaio unit w/pentium 4 1.4 chip. has nvidia Geforce 2mx card w/32.
understand board has 4x agp slot that will not support 8x.
is upgrade to 8x card w/ 256 or 512 worth investment ?
primarily video w/ games.

Video card performance is NOT based on the amount of memory a card has.

That said, even a 256mb video card will be overkill for your system.

You're best off with something such as a 6600GT or a 6800 vanilla.

All new AGP cards are 8x, but they will work in a 4x system. They just might not work as fast as they really can.
 
what games do you want to play and at what resolution.

Your CPU is very slow by any standards. How much system RAM do you have.
