Looking for suggestions. I have been doing LOTS of reading this week, but still a little unsure. I'm not really a gamer and will probably either buy a laptop this winter so I really don't feel the need for a total system upgrade yet. I spend most of my spare time in the garage. I hate to go overboard on an AGP card that won't make it into my next system. I don't mind spending the money, just don't see any reason to have way more "power" than will actually be used right now. Used or refurb is an option as well.

This machine gets used mostly for internet, word processing, and will be doing some video editing, but nothing major. Maybe some Autocad work, but I don't currently have Autocad at home. Especially if something else is going to be a bottle neck. I just set up the new monitor and so far it looks descent but if I start opening to many browsers at once it REALLY bogs down. The only thing that has changed is the monitor. The old monitor was a "cheap" 17" crt Relysis I've had for many years. WIth the 24" widescreen, I can see myself wanting to watch videos, TV, or a DVD on one side while surfing onthe other. So maybe an Al-in-Wonder?

Currently (couple of years old):
PX865PEC Pro (I think that's right)
512 megs of ram (Planning to upgrade)
2.4 P4
Seagate hard drive
lite-on CD burner (planning to get a dvd burner)
Radeon 7200
Just using the on-board sound right now and headphones. Probably will by some descent speakers and a soundcard.
Right now I am using Win2000Pro.

Thanks!!!

Just got some excellent deals on ATI FireGL video cards via eBay. Its a excellent graphics card (non-gaming).
Since the gamers go high on the "other cards", we were fortunate to get 2 Fire GL's at unbelieveable prices, under $70.
We do digital imaging and digital video work and we can't believe our good fortune. The cards retail for over $500 retail.
It worth your checking them out. MP.
