AGP card stuck in PCI mode

Ok when i installed the newest version of the Detonator drivers 41.09 it went into PCI mode but its a AGP card and im trying to get it to go to AGP mode.It was in AGP mode when i had the 40.72 drivers but when i installed the 41.09 got that message about there was still traces of old Nvidia drivers please remove em. But i read on a message board(forgot which said that doesnt matter under winXP)

Ive reinstalled the drivers mulitple times and each time i reinstall , winXP likes to install some old 20.XX version which pisses me off and wont completely clean off my system.So any help on how i can totally remove all old Nvidia Drivers and so i can install it back in AGP mode.

Im running:
p4 2.4ghz
512 DDR 2100 ram
Geforce4 ti4600
Directx 9.0
WinXP Home edition(up to date)

Also my benchmarks are ass 1st time i ran it got 7956 with the 41.09 drivers , so i reinstalled the 40.72 and it dropped down to 4875 so i then put back the 41.09 and it only got up to 5100.....i mean i dont care much for em but thats hella low.

Yes..those are really low. Try removing the ti4600 from device manager in hardware settings. Then do a detect new hardware. When video card comes up, select choose a specified device or whatever and choose standard vga. Reboot, and this time install 40.72 and see what happens. I don't think there are any detonator destroyers for 2k or XP, so if that doesn't work you may want to consider a fresh install

Tried this as well , it keeps installing some old ass drivers has Microsoft Corporations at the end of the driver name. Does this automatically when it starts up after windows finishs loading.I guess ill just format it , wanted to convert hard drive to the NFTS(sp?) from fat32 anyways...heard its much better.

Try this:

I found this procedure in the GURU3D forums. It?s great for a total clean-up of old detonator driver before applying the new one.
I have never tried the portions in starz, so I can?t vouch for their effectiveness. The rest seemed to work great!
1) Run Regedit and navigate to this key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion
2) Record the locations entered in the "Device Path" value..
3) Search these locations and also, if not included, these below also for any nv3.*nf, nv4.*nf or nv4_disp.inf files and delete them.
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ReinstallBackups (allsubfolders)
C:\DRIVERS\VIDEO (for Dell Systems)
C:\WINDOWS\Inf (which should be the first entry in the device path)
4) Uninstall and reboot - you should be using the standard VGA controller at this point - but if not dont worry.

*********NEW SECTION OF ADVICE**********************
5) Add ";c:\nvidia" to the end of the device path value (without the quotation marks).
6) Create a folder at c:/nvidia and extract new drivers here.

Note: For future updates - extract new drivers to c:/nvidia then uninstall Dets and reboot- afterwards the new drivers will install automatically. Then reboot again and use the RefreshTool and then reboot again and you're ready to go.

7) Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic

es\nv4 and delete this key.

Note: (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi
ces\nv is the key which is used for detonator drivers whereas the nv4 is only for OEM and stock XP drivers)
8) Got to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro
l\Video
and delete any keys (eg. FF890-7895-7896-3611) which refer to detonator drivers.
(Uninstall drivers if not working under standard VGA) and reboot.
9) Drivers should now be installed automatically. Reboot and use the refreshTool. Reboot and you're ready to go.



****TO DISABLE AUTO-INSTALL OF ALL DRIVERS*********
Export the Device Path value in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion for backup purposes.
Now delete the Device Path data (all the locations entered).
XP should not be able to auto-install drivers without you manually pointing to them.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your system and make sure that your AGP aperture is at least 64 MB in size. Also check dxdiag and see if you can enable hardware acceleration from there.

You don't have to reformat to change your drives to ntfs btw. Reinstall dx8.1 or whatever it is. No sense using dx9 when the card doesn't need it.

Windows is pulling these from a hidden inf file. To get to the file just open properties and click on C: drive go to Tools and click on folder options. Click on view and check the box that says show hidden files. Delete the entries you want and windows will not be able to load the drivers. I just delete the whole folder but you can just delete whatever parts you want to.
