Does AGP Bus matter at all in Overclocking you're video card?

I have the Core and Memory OC'd to its Max.

I noticed the AGP Bus at 66 and oc'd it to 82 so far and no problems.

Does this change anything?

agp speed has nothing to do with video card overclocking i dont think....but i wouldnt wanna run my agp/pci bus as fast as that, basicaly forcing ur agp and pci cards to run faster...which they are generally not built to do

and rage187 is right, and i wouldnt go gettin cocky with him either

I don't believe that was at all "cocky". Judgen by the two posts I would say his reply was only posted to start trouble probably to abuse the right of moderator.

I don't understand everyone that don't overclock trys to flame my post. I get ample cooling in my machine so much you wouldn't believe it if I posted it.

I have overclocked this PC for months and no problem I just want to ask a simple question without everyone butting thier way into my thread to tell me I shouldn't overclock.

If you can't answer the question on if it improves speed please do not post and if you're going to post a negative post toward me please do not post.

Thanks Management

BTW I got a AMD xp2500+ mobile running @ 2499mhz so if I bought an Otispunkmeyer Special It would cost me alot of money for nothing extra.

Woah chill out. Remember your posting on internet forums, no reason to get worked up.

You have a couple things wrong.

Rage187 is not a moderator he is rage187 a moderator would be named Anandtech Moderator :) ... k?

He was not trying to flame you post he was not trolling.

I have overclocked this PC for months and no problem I just want to ask a simple question without everyone butting thier way into my thread to tell me I shouldn't overclock.

I hate to break it to you but you cant "but in" to a post. You asked a question on whether OCing was safe or not and should you go higher. If you dont want our opinion then dont ask.

If you can't answer the question on if it improves speed please do not post and if you're going to post a negative post toward me please do not post.

Again you are worked up. Just calm down and think a second. We are answering your question. People post negative things... its an internet forum.

As for your question, stressing your PCI/AGP bus is a very bad idea. That is the best way (besides cheap PSU) to blow outyour motherboard. THe AGP/PCI bus's were not meant to be stressed at all, so i would HIGHLY advise that you put it back at default.

As for your other question, no there is no tangible speed increase. You will gain maybe a frame more if that. It is not worth it seeing as your computer is being strained a lot. You think overvolting is something running the PCI/AGP bus out of spec is much worse (of course if the voltage is high enough it gets much worse but you know what i mean).

Have fun overclocking and dont get worked up in the forums, it will only cause more problems.

The video card can only run as fast as its meant to run. Increasing the AGP bus speed will not in any way speed up your graphics as any speed bottleneck coming from your card to the cpu isn't the bus's fault. Remember the whole "no speed increase between 4x and 8x AGP and 16x PCI-e"? Same deal.

AFAIK, it does, but not for the better. You can easily check for your self by running a video benchie like Aquamark etc. to confirm/deny gfx improvements.

AFAIK, OCing the AGP or PCI bus can lead to instabilty, HW problems and currupt your OS (PCI bus running too fast).

Consider that all good OCing mobo have built-in AGP/PCI locks to keep those two busses at 66/33mhz respectively. In otherwords, OCers' want to keep those busses at their normal speeds. That s/b a tip that increasing the mhz/speed of those two busses is undesirable.

To increase the vid card perfromance, or to OC it, you want to raise the core and mem speeds of the card itself. Not muck with the bus speed. Depending on which card you have (nVidia or ATI) there are several proggies for each wich will help you OC your card.

What everyone else above me said, AND especially the "chillax man no need to get worked up". Awooga!
