So my friend is trying to upgrade his video card and he is having a hard time with... something not even sure what. the question that needs asking is are AGP and PCI E compatible? I had him right click my computer > manage > display drivers and > properties and he told me the current card was in PCI slot #something then he did a run > dxdiag and he told me it told him his video card was AGP. is this possible? what type is his card?

I'd take the dxdiag reading as accurate because the computer management application says my AGP card is in the PCI bus too :Q. If still in doubt open the computer and have a look at the card

AGP and PCI-E are not compatible, they have different slots for starters.

If you are not sure what it is open it up and find out to be certain.

It's probably a default identification, like SATA adapters being seen as a SCSI device.

AGP, PCI, and PCI-E are all different.

Tell him to download Everest Home, then look at the mb configuration under "summary".
