AGP 8x + Enabling Fast Write

Aida32 and Sandra report my card in 4x and fast write is DISABLED.

pertinent hardware ..

Radeon 9700 Pro _ CAT 3.8
Abit Nforce2 NF7-S REV 2.
XP Pro SP1

in bios, i set AGP to 8x and ENABLED Fast Write
in the cat3.,8 drivers,, under smartgart it reads as 4x and fast write disabled.
-- when i bump it to 8x and Enable Fast write, it says it needs a reboot for settings to make a change.
i reboot and nothing happens. the settings are as if i didn't change them.

Any thoughts?
 
I had the same problem with my NF7-S and Radeon 8500, and the only thing that could get FW enabled was the option in PowerStrip, but it caused popping polys in D3D games (OGL games worked fine for some reason), and no increase in performance so I left it off... my advice would be to test it extensively before leaving it on. HTH
 
yeah, i figured i couldn't see much in performance jsut thought it was a weird. oh well. not something imma burn the house about. thanks for the reply.
