Just been reading through the graphics card FAQ on here and it says that AGP4x cards usually work on 2x. I have a spare Siluro GF4 ti4200 card (not the 8x enhanced version) and a second PC with this chipset according to CPU-Z:

Mainboard and chipset
Motherboard manufacturer Compaq
Motherboard model 041Ch,
BIOS vendor Compaq
BIOS revision 686T2
BIOS release date 08/18/99
Chipset Intel i440BX/ZX rev. C1
Southbridge Intel 82371 (PIIX4) rev. 2

Unfortunately I can't find any information about this motherboard, and I'm not allowed to tinker with the second PC until I get all the facts - it's my step-dad's. So can anyone confirm that this card will work on this machine?

Thanks.

If it does work what kind of performance will I get with it? The downstairs PC is a P3 running at 650Mhz with a Millennium G400 AGP card.

AGP 4x cards should be able to run in AGP 2x cards, just stick it in and see if it fits.

AGP 4x cards are labelled AGP 4x/2x

Alright, thanks. If it does fit it will work won't it? I won't have to worry about the voltage and all that?
I have to ask because I can't find any information about this mobo whatsoever, and I can't open it up to see the model number written on the board until I've found some information. Bit of a catch 22.

No worries, it will work fine :) I had that exact card and as stated above it supports the 2x and 4x spec. I don't know how much, if any 2x will hold it back, and the CPU is likely to be a bigger bottleneck for games?

Excellent, thank you. I'm going to sneak the card in tommorrow, when no ones about. Hopefully they won't notice.
