I have seen the post asked the other way ...8x board in 4x Mobo

.. but will my 2x/4x board work OK in a 8X Mobo .. in other words is the 8X slot/spec compatible with a 4x board

thanks for any help

AFAIK, 8X supports 1.5v, 4X 1.8v, and 1X and 2X boards support 3.3v.
As long as your card supports the voltage, it should work a 8X board.

Go to the card manufacturer's site and check out the specs. It should list the supported voltages.

Yes, 8x AGP boards are backwards compatible with 4x, 2x, 1x. That would be just wrong to ask you to shell out for a new mobo AND buy a brand new card :)

thanks ... I was thinking the same thing ... it would make lots of people rather upset to get one of these new KT400 Motherbeards which say they are 8X AGP and then put your 4X spec board and not work.

I just wanted to make sure before I took the plunge

It damn well better considering there are like 3 8x cards out there.
