AGP 4x/8x, does it matter?

Does AGP 4x/8x matter? How much will it impact the performance of my GFX card that my computer sucks and only has AGP 4x?? I have a x700 pro, and might get a 6600GT, thanks for your time ;D
 
Personally, I wouldn't bother with the upgrade if you're motherboard only supports 4x AGP. Save your money and build a new machine later.
 
There is no speed difference between 4X and 8X AGP. 4X will not bother anything at all.

I did not know the X700 came in an AGP version.
 
Where did the X700 come from?

Does it have a power connector and are you using it?

The 6600GT is certainly faster, but I doubt it would be enough of an upgrade to notice on your system.
 
weren't there differences in the cards and power, like the 4x were 3.3V and the 8x were 1.5V or something to that nature....???? plus some of the cards had those little cutouts in different spots and may or may not fit in the agp slot
 
The x700pro was on sale at bestbuy for about $200 back in april so I got it. Everyone I talk to seems to think that the 6600GT is wayyy better than the x700pro. Plus, the upgrade cost wouldn'tbe that much if I sell the x700pro. Do you guys know if 256mb matters vs the 128mb version of the 6600GT? Oh, and I dont know ANYTHING about the voltages of the card, maybe I will try and find out. Thanks again
 
ohhh, sorry, I think it does have an extra power connector. I think I just slapped it on one of the cords with nothing on it, or maybe my optical drives.

No, that would be the signaling voltages, and it's 1.5V and .8V and there is no need to worry about that unless you have a very old board.

You haven't had to worry about those notches in a very long time, either.

The lowend cards do not benefit from 256MB of ram. Stick to the 128MB ones.
