AGP 4x/8x compatability

It will work and it won't even be bandwidth limited... Yet... Current games that run with adequate speed on the 6600GT won't max out the AGP 4X bus, so you should be fine.

oh this works perfectly as i have a question. I have an asus p4pe mobo. It has everyting recent except for dual channel and 8x agp. (grr). dual channel no biggie but I finally updated toa good grahpics card (9800pro) form my 9600pro and I was wondering am I being limited at all by only have 4x agp?

I guess you say no but is that actually right? what's the point of 8x agp then?

between 4x and 8x is nominal diiference, just like between 8x and pci-e. It was meant to fully take over from 4x. (if anyone knows about my problem, please post 😉 )

as far as i know ANY 8x agp card can go into a 4x slot. (they aren't phyisically differetn)

it's just that any 8x/4x card CAN NOT go into a 2x/1x agp slot or else boom.

Cpu-Z may tell you what you need to know about your motherboard.

At least it does on my old Asus P4T-E board, listing it as AGP 2.0, 4x - so I'm assuming that Leadtek card would run on my board (I'm planning on getting it as well).

unless of course you've got a card that specifically says that it does not do AGP 2X/1X. My radeon 9800PRO works perfectly fine in a AGP 2X slot...

The ATI Radeon 9800PRO and below is definately an exception.
