AGP 2x/8x Question

Ok, so I'm getting my first computer from one of my mom's friends. I'm pretty sure that it has a AGP 2x slot(yes it is VERY old), and I was wondering if an AGP 8x card would work in that slot. Any answers are appreciated.

Likely not, the slot is going to be different and voltage to the cards are diff.

If I'm remembering incorrectly, somebody will correct me 😉

I've gotten myself confused looking online for a good source of info on the topic. I've seen a lot of contradictory info on the matter, but to play it safe I would not try it due to this voltage issue.
