AGP 1x card into AGP 4x Slot???

As title, can I put an AGP 1x card into an AGP 2x/4x slot?? I asked cos I know that AGP 2x cards aren't compatible with AGP 4x/8x slots, & I just want to know whether I'll burn anything if use an AGP 1x card on my mb.

A 2X slot isn't the same as a 4X slot. You can't fit a 1X or 2X card in a 4X slot, so even trying wouldn't be possible.

If it's a UNIVERSAL slot, then yes. If it's a 4x-only or 4x/8x, no.

The card and slot connectors are mechanically keyed to prevent from plugging stuff together that doesn't work together.

Ok thx, my mb is kt266a based, & the card in question is a Nvidia Riva128 card.

I've just checked & my mb's bios allows me to set agp to 1x, so does it mean it's safe to plug the card in??

yes. i have a kt266a board and my old 1x voodoo card still works on it

See my explanation above.

In particular, KT266A has a "universal" implementation of AGP, accepting any kind of AGP card, 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x. The latter ones will be run at 4x mode, but all of them work.
