I have an AGOIA processor and i want to know what is the potential of this cpu?

I currently have a ecs k7s5a MB that doesn't over clock too well. I have the 1.4xp @ 1.54gh and that's the max before the system hangs on bootup. What MB should i get if i want to overclock the AGOIA to the fullest? and what kind of ram should i get? i have crucial ddr2100 ram in my system now. And what cooler should i get? I have a cooler master DP5-6J31C and it's rated up to a xp 2100+. i know it's a lot of questions, but thanks for any and all input.

I would not buy a new motherboard with the intent of getting much from an AGOIA/Palamino chip. Some are good overclockers, but the one I had would only do 1.7gig with the same cooler I am running my current 1700+@2.3gig. Ram is cheap, so get some good PC3200 at minimum, don't even bother with PC2700/3000.

Don't count on getting anymore than 1.7-1.8gig from the Palamino core 1600+ AGOIA. Make sure your PSU is up to snuff and I would recommend a cooler with at least a copper core that contacts the CPU die.

thanks for the reply. I guess i won't go that route then. I just heard that some agoia were getting 1.8-2.0ghz on air cooling. I guess i should just upgrade everything in the near future. Thanks.

Some of the AGOIA's were doing that range, but I would guess most were in the 1.8gig max range. I remember at the time that mine was a relatively under performer compared to most.

So is it worth it to upgrade ram and mb to get an extra 300-400 mhz out of my cpu? I have a 300W enlight PSU and i guess it's pretty decent. What's the best overclocking MB out right now and what's a good overclocking CPU out right now? I've been out of the loop for over a year, i don't know what's the best out. Thanks.

Go with an nforce2 MB, Epox, Aopen, Soltek, ect. The 1700+ t-bred B of this years manufacture is a great one and can be had for around $45-$55 and they do pretty easy 2.1-2.3gig with good air cooling. Your PSU might limmit you, but you should be able to get around 2.0gig overclock with it depending on other system specs.
