Well I can do the 166FSB dance at default voltage but even at default my temps get to high for some reason. Was wanting to put a Panaflo L1A on my CPU but I know the temps won't stay where they need to be. What I was wondering is how much would the temp drop by dropping my voltage below default and running at default speeds? What would be the lowest I could go on the voltage?

I would rather have a quieter PC than a loud and o/ced PC. I could always o/c later on if I need the extra power.

Only one way to find out :). All cpu's are different some can be underclocked and some can't. What would really be great, is if you can undervolt and oc at the same time. Mine does 1.65v at 10.5x166. Just drop the vCore down by increments and test whether it's stable or not. As far as cooling goes, I really can't tell you since I'm watercooled and near ambient @ default voltages.

For a quiet air-cooled solution, try the AX7 with a lower speed or variable speed fan. I have my XP1600@1800MHz running at 1.81v, max temp load is 48c. This is after I turned the cpu fan down to 3300rpm. I have four case fans, all rated at 28dBA all running on a 7-volt mod. My system is very quiet, cool and still overclocked!

^Sniper^, what kind of temps are you getting? Remember, the 8K3A+ gives the real temperature directly from the diode, not watered-down readings from the air beneath the CPU, so readings in the 70C area on an 8K3A+ might be expected.

mech, i dont think thats right. i'm using a kt4 ultra which also reads straight from the diode and my temps run in 46/53 range (idle/load) using only a swiftech mcx370 with stock pabst fan and as3.
my case is pretty cool froma vantec tornado (5400rpm, 92mm, 119cfm) and a delta (8k rpm, 60mm, 64ish cfm), but my sys temps are much much lower than my cpu temp (not quite ambient, but within 5 or so degrees C).

The people who bought the 8K3A+ caused an avalanche of "OHMYGOSH, MY CPU IS GONNA FRY, HEEEELLLPPPP!" threads around here when those boards came out, so it's sort of a known quality of those boards. :D I have an Asus A7V333-R, and Motherboard Monitor 5.2 is able to get CPU-core readings and they are more like what your MSI shows... but for better or for worse, the EPoX 8K3A family report temps in the mid-to-high 60's with cooling that would give 50's on most other boards.

My 8K3A+ with 52cfm fan/SLK-800/ASIII case temp of 32c right now peak@49c, my 8K3A with 52cfm fan/Alapha 8045/ASIII case temp of 33c peaks at 53c, however with this system exactly the same except with a GC68/ASII in place of the 8045/ASIII the load temps were as high as 65c and the system was still rock solid so 70c as monitored on this board would still be safe IMO as well.

I run a 8K3A+ and 1600+ with an SLK-800 and a nice quite Panaflo "HIGH" Fan and my temp is 33C-34C at 166FSB.I was preiviousy using a Volcano 6 cu+ and my temps were about 39C-40C at 166FSB.Also using Arctic Silver 3.

Using a Panaflow LA1@1600+,1.6v my temps stay at about 54-57c and thats with a fan filter on my intake case fan. If I take it off I get 49-54c. Its all a matter of how cool the room temp is. My room temps stays fairly cool of the day but for some reason of the night its hot in my room.

My system is fairly quiet right now with the loudest thing in my PC is prob my Radeon 8500 or Maxtor 80gig(don't know which). I wish I could do 2100+ speeds with this CPU because I know it will do them but I guess I will hold off till I get a better cooling setup. I ain't in no big hurry to get one as I am happy that my system doesnt sound like a 747. Don't really need the extra power right now anyway because my system runs UT2003 just fine on almost max setting 1024x768.
