I can not download large files correctly. This is in regards to anything other than web pages and e-mail through outlook express.
I first noticed it with Planetside, a 1.5GB file download, from fileplanet.com
Then, with the Tribes : Vengeance video also from fileplanet.com
Then, I got some errors with norton antivirus so I uninstalled it and the firewall only to find it didn't solve the problem.
I have the latest bios, I download newest LAN drivers for the Asus P4P800 Deluxe. They wouldn't work like the other files so I got on another computer and burned the CD. ***NOW!*** When I try the burned CD with the same .zip files, the error while extracting comes at a different point, but doesn't work this time either. *NOW* I try unzipping on the other computer, it works.
I believe this is a 3Com Gigabit network adapter that is integrated onto my motherboard. I get the feeling that it is more than just my network card because it wouldn't unzip on my computer and so I had to unzip it on another computer. On both computers, I used the integrated Windows zip tool to unzip. I've also downloaded a few other gaming related quicktime movie files, etc. and all of them have some kind of problem. I know the problem is not in the router because other computers can download/unzip it just fine on the network.
This is running XP Pro with all the latest updates.
Update: I tried using a Linksys PCI network card and got the same problems. It downloads fine but when I go to use the file and extract it, it says the file is corrupt, just like with the 3Com network card. The Linksys is a 10/100 mbit card whereas the 3com is a 10/100/1000 mbit card but my wiring is using Cat5 and my hub, router, and other computers are on 100mbit connections as well incase it matters. And yes, other computers on my network can download it and run it.
I think the problem lies in the unzipping itself because it downloads fine on other computers, and even after sharing a 'good' download on the network, I can't unzip it from my computer. What do you think? What should I do?
