Oh God, not a Department of Peace and Nonviolence. Shoot me now so I won't be left without a gun after the Democrats come and take it away.

BTW, these kinds of "examples" of what will happen if the Democrats win the house isn't exactly going to get moderates to your side. It's pretty sad if these are the most extreme examples you could come up with. I think if people had a choice of $255 million a day for the Iraq war, or education and housing for all Americans, most would go for education and housing.

i agree, but you see, that would mean spending tax dollars on infrastructure and services that gives direct aid to mr. average joe america. that is tantamount to stealing corporate welfare funds and denying halliburton, big oil and the social elite their right to loot and plunder our tax coffers in a way that they've become quite comfortable with ever since they gained control of the government via the hijacking of the republican party.

On one had we have some worse case senarios bills that MIGHT pass in democratic
congress. And presumably then be vetoed by GWB.

On the other side of the equation we have the DAMAGE ACTUALLY DONE by the GOP.

1. Trillions added to the national debt.

2. Failed wars in Iraq and Afganistan administered by bumblers.

3. US international credability ruined.

4. Need I go on and on and on to document GOP zaniness.

Sorry, I will be voting democratic-------as the record shows.

No, don't do it Lemon Law, the Democrats will be worse, even though since they've been effectively powerless for 6 years there's no corroborating evidence to support that untested hypothesis!

The Republican's ONLY message left is to let them continue to rape this country, because somehow the Democrats will be worse. You see it now with all the attack ads, with the NRCC funding clear-cut libel, and even in Massachusetts where the only venue Kerry Healey has left is to misrepresent Deval Patrick's court cases, saying nothing about herself because she doesn't have anything to say. At least the Democrats have a, if not clear, then widespread message that covers a lot of bases. They're becoming the big tent party again.

Anybody care to explain what these means? So many "rights" to something without any plan to carry it out. Sounds to me like more taxes out of the pocket of the middle class.
Whatever happens to socking it to the rich?

Horay for Rats

Rather have a rat than a phoney war.

Everything except number 8 sounds good. What's the problem?

Btw, I'd rather raise taxes a little than cut taxes for the top 1%, give billions to oil companies(which just encourages them to continue to raise prices($3 per gallon pre-election time)) and increase our deficit by a trillion dollars.

You DO know that the federal deficit will cause a need for increased tax some time in the future right? ANYONE could claim they aren't raising taxes by spending more than they have.. but you can't get away with it in the long term... it is a dishonest way to raise taxes...

All but a handful of states do allow convicted felons to vote, once they've served their sentences. This is a common misapprehension among the public. All this legislation would do, if passed, is nationalize that practice.

Here in Iowa you need to receive a pardon from the Governor to vote again. I'm sure it varies from state to state.

Ah, you live in Iowa... something is explained! Prof, you from north dakota or Kentucky?

I went on DNC.org and read their real agenda, 6 point plan for 2006.
1
Honest Leadership & Open Government
We will end the Republican culture of corruption and restore a government as good as the people it serves, starting with real ethics reform.

2
Real Security
We will protect Americans at home and lead the world by telling the truth to our troops, our citizens and our allies. We believe in a strong national defense that is both tough and smart, recognizing that homeland security begins with hometown security.

3
Energy Independence
We will create a cleaner, greener and stronger America by reducing our dependence on foreign oil, eliminating billions in subsidies for oil and gas companies and use the savings to provide consumer relief and develop energy alternatives, and investing in energy independent technology.

4
Economic Prosperity & Educational Excellence
We will create jobs that stay in America and restore opportunity for all Americans, starting with raising the minimum wage, expanding Pell grants and making college tuition tax deductible. We also believe in budget discipline that reduces our deficit.

5
A Healthcare System that Works for Everyone
We will join 36 other industrialized nations in making sure everyone has access to affordable health care, starting by fixing the prescription drug program and investing in stem cell and other medical research.

6
Retirement Security
We will ensure that a retirement with dignity is the right and expectation of every single American, starting with pension reform, expanding saving incentives and preventing the privatization of social security.
