age prejudicism?

I was just wondering... since theres a crackdown on racism and everything...

age prejudicism

IMO this is nearly as bad as racism etc... both are based on the same concept. racism= negative judgement of a race in general
that link = saying anyone under 50 doesnt have a valid opinion.
i find that annoying and offensive.

You mean there are people over 50 who know computers? 😉

EDIT:I do not mean to offend anybody over 50, it is just that the newer generations are growing up with computers and there are more of these people who are more familiar with them.

Yes, occasionally there have been remarks denigrating the young. Not surprisingly (given the demographics of this board,) these are greatly outnumbered by comments that show bias and contempt for older people.

While we may find this sort of thing offensive, we cannot and will not crack down on everything that offends us personally. Several of the Moderators (myself included) think that things have already taken too great a turn toward political correctness.

I welcome comment from my fellow Moderators on this matter. Of course, most of 'em are wet-behind-the-ears insolent young pups, so they will probably just call me a geezer and run away playing their vile rock and roll music too loud on those gol-durned stereo contraptions.

😉

As a senior citizen myself and having been around here from the beginning there has been a LOT of posts relating to "Old geezers" Old farts" and why should they be allowed to do this or that. I do not take a personal offence to this because I know that when I was young I knew everything and the older I got the dumber I got, this has not changed ask any 17 year old. I do not think racism has any place on this board or anywhere else for that matter but any post that degrades older persons does not bother me in the least because I know that I am stupid and not competant to drive a car or make any decisions. And best of all I dont have to give good advice because no one in his right mind would believe a person of my age.
Bleep

An excellent post, Bleep.

Another point:

In the belief that "what goes around comes around" (I call this the "Carousel Theory&quot😉, youngsters who mock their elders will eventually reap what they have sown. Every young man, if he lives, turns into an old one. This is, of course, not true in the case of sexist or racist slurs.

Just so you know both I, and the moderator who posted above, have RED dots.

ROFL!

You guys better watch out for the member who calls himself LordSandman! 😉

I think this is less of a problem of "ageism" rather than people taking most things (incl. themselves) far too seriously 😀.

Look at most Intel/AMD posts - most threads end up in a "Zealot" flame-war of both sides. People should just take a more chilled attituted & not try to force their oppinions down others' throats. The "holier than thou" attitude doesn't do anyone any good.

Personally, I was quite amused at the "RAID - no comment unless you're SMART or over 50" - I found it quite humorous. But some people end up taking it the wrong way. Does this mean that such headlines should stop then?

Nope - people have to learn to be more mellow about things. There's alternatives to the "fire & sword" approach 🙂. Even online 😀. Free speech has a "price" - we see things that we may not "like" (in a simplified way - I shan't turn this into an essay). As such, you just have to make sure you don't take everything personally. Obviously, headings like "All jewish black purple-lined with yellow-tie and green sneakers aardvark-zodiaks must die" is not the sort of thing I would support. Free speech is more something that should be used sensible. Hmmm - it is however quite debateable how sensible humans are. 😀.

Anyway - before I end up owning pages & pages of this thread with my thoughts, I shall end it here.

- Shathal - becoming older every day 😉.

Ok, I'm not sure quite what to make of this. I missed the red dot thing. Could you explain for the confused please? 😕

I never considered myself threatening, well not most of the time anyway. 🙂

Lord Sandman, the moderator's remark about "red dots" was, I presumed, a reference to the movie "Logan's Run" after I mentioned my "Carousel Theory." "Carousel," in this sci-fi movie, is a ceremony of destruction and supposed renewal that all future citizens must undergo when they turn 30 years of age. On a citizen's 30th birthday, a green light implanted in the palm of the hand turns red.

In "Logan's Run," a pair of fugitives whose dots are red and who are fleeing (so that they will not have to be destroyed in Carousel) are pursued by a police officer called a "Sandman." Hence my mention to your username, which (mistakenly, it seems) I assumed was a reference to this bad-but-classic movie.

The Red Dot thing went over my head too. 😱😱😱

<Edit> Molly, thanks for explaining. 🙂

Well dang, if you have to be 30 to get a Red light, mine's still Green. I've got a few more years to go.

LOL, thanks. 🙂

Edit - My name came about one day when I was looking for a new handle. I heard "Sandman" mentioned on the radio, and thought it sounded cool. I used it for about 6 months, and then found too many other people using it. So I changed it to LordSandman.

<<Several of the Moderators (myself included) think that things have already taken too great a turn toward political correctness.>>

Sometimes it seems as if the Forums are an arena for "Political Correctness Gone Mad," but imho, it's just becaue you guys/gals are trying hard to please so many people. Plus, look at the rest of the world. With so many lawsuits, things have gone "PC" to protect from those lawsuits. While PC's origins had good intentions, it got way out of hand. Welcome to modern society. 😛

Beautiful, great explanation mollymawk (I think it might be better than the movie itself 😛), thanks for asking, LSM 🙂
