age old question: manual vs electric razor?

in one corner, we have the mach 3 turbo with whatever fancy shaving cream you like (neutrogena, kiehls, king of shaves, etc). in the other corner we have the panasonic wet/dry 13k rpm shaver, or the braun, or norelco, or anything else. when i first started shaving i used some old norelco i didn't like that much, and for the past 8 or so years i've been using razors (past few years, aforementioned mach 3s or turbos). now i'm considering making the switch back to electric for convenience's sake. i suppose my main problem would be that my hair pattern isn't in all in the same direction all over my face (cheeks are downwards, neck is either to the left or right), but i'm not sure if that matters. i suppose what i'd really like to know is if the electric will give me as close a shave as the razor. no poll, because i want opinions. thanks

I've been using disposable BICs since they were first introduced. No shave cream, gel or whatever, just the same soap used to wash my face, when I wash my face. Takes all of 2 or 3 minutes... tops! No after shave either. I shave in the shower, if I shower in the morning, so again, it takes almost no extra time or effort. Each ten cent disposable lasts a couple weeks, if my wife doesn't get hold of it. No nicks, cuts, rashes or anything else, and ends up smooth as silk in less than 3 minutes.

The last time I screwed around with an electric, it took at least 3 minutes, and wasn't nearly as smooth.

I've been using the Mach 3 Turbo blade. I have the Gilette Electric Razor with the lotion dispenser in it but it really gets my acne going so I don't use it anymore. I have to shave every other day so I can't really use the Gillette razor since it just gets me even more fugly. 🙁

Here is my opinion.

Electric benefits:
1) You can use the same blades for years - no hassle and expense of getting new blades all the time.
2) Usually much faster than a decent razor shave.
3) No water, soap, cream, or anything needed - so it is easier to grab your razor and shave whereever you are going.
4) Painless (I haven't found a good razor yet that doesn't burn - I have very sensitive skin and quite thick course hair).
5) No niks, cuts, or anything else. (See #4, I cannot avoid them with a razor).
6) No harmful environmental chemicals needed for shaving/aftershave, less waste in the landfill of all the razor blades and handles.

Razor benefits:
1) Lower starting cost.
2) Closer shave (note a little known fact: stretching the skin while using an electric will eliminate most but not all of this benefit).

Before the shower I run my electric shaver over real fast (1 mnute), and then after the shower I run my sensor razor to clean up.

Manual because for me personally it offers a closer shave, and every electric I've used has somehow managed to maul my flesh somewhere on my face and leave me bleeding and disfigured for a few days.

For me, manual is much better than electric. I can never get a close shave with an electric.

i do that if i havent shaved in a few days
usually shave in the shower every other day though

I can't stand electric. They irritate my skin, make me break out, the shave isn't close, and IMO it takes longer. I know the last part might be hard for some people to believe, but after you manually shave every freakin' day for years and years, you become pretty damn good and fast about it. Takes me maybe 2-3 minutes.
