Hi Everyone

I just noticed that there is a legacy AOE bundle for sale on steam that included the original game, some new expansion, and AOE 3. Price is 14.00.

My question is, has anyone played AOE 3 on Steam? If so, are the crashing issues on Win 7 resolved? I have the game on CD, but it is basically unplayable on Win 7, and I havent been able to find a fix.

I don't have my CDs anymore (main reason why I bought it on Steam), but I haven't experienced any crashing on Win7 with the Steam version.

Another reminder that all the Age of Empires OnLine stuff I got and hadn't played yet it trash now. We need to do better for gamers about that.

I read a few days ago that Microsoft is scrapping Age of Empires Online.

I imagine most people aren't going to miss it. :p

No, has scrapped. It's gone and totally unplayable by those of us who bought it, and not surprisingly missed by numerous players.

Huh? Age of Empires Online was an abortion of a game that had more in common with Facebook's Farmville than Age of Empires. It should never had existed in the first place.

Criticize Age of Empires Online for not being the original game, but it was designed by Total Annihilation's Chris Taylor's Gas Powered Games, and had some happy players.

What crashing issue? Age of Empires III is certainly unplayable, but that's because of it's extreme stuttering issue, not crashing.

Yeah, they essentially were pissing on Ensemble Studios' grave with that travesty. Disgraceful.

When the game starts up, I get a message that there are known issues with the game. When I play, the game locks up and requires a hard restart. I have tried running in compatibility mode but that does not solve the problem.

I'm definitely not going to miss it but I won't forgive Microsoft for shutting it down either. I consider Age of Empires: Online the WORST money I've every spent on a game (and I have plenty I'll never play and some that never even worked). I loved the previous AOE games but AOE Online was an absolute atrocity. It felt like it should have had EA's name on it.

Unfortunately I can't answer the OP even though I have both the Steam version and original CD version of AOE 3. Maybe I should give it a try. I can say that AOE 2 HD runs fine on Windows 7.

Between the two, Age of Empires II HD is really the one to get. It still looks great after all these years thanks to the hand drawn 2D art, and the game is still fun to play alone or with friends (preferably).
