Age of Conan...

Yep. It has been mentioned as a 360 MMO for a while now. It isn't expected to be out on the 360 until 2009 though while the PC version will be out in a couple of months.

A quick Google search on Cross Platform play lists it as "Possibility" and "Might Happen".

This is going to sound like a slight thread hijack, but whatever became of the Sony/NCSoft partnership? I want Guild Wars for my PS3, dammit!

Anyways, the more MMORPGs, the merrier. Microsoft really needs to relent on the "no mice allowed" policy, though - it made playing FFXI a real PITA.

how would an MMO work on a console? It's hard for me to imagine an MMO without a keyboard... I suppose you could get a USB keyboard for your XBOX 360... but at that point, I might as well be on my PC. For mouse-keyboard play it'd be more comfortable I think to just sit at my PC. Or you just eliminate all the typing that goes on in most MMO's, but the chatting and social aspect of MMO's is a pretty big part of it....

Just curious how this would work. I'm in if it looks good 🙂 Then again though, if I had to pay a monthly fee.. .again I think I'd just play this one on my PC. Don't want to start paying Monthly fees for my xbox games. It's bad enough I do it for MMO's on my PC.

Well, if everyone has a headset, you don't really need a keyboard to chat. 😉

But like you said, you can use a keyboard on the 360 to chat. Other games have allowed it and you can use the messenger pad that attaches to the 360 controller as well.

The current MMO model on the 360 (based on Final Fantasy XI and Phantasy Star Universe) is to charge like other MMOs but not require a Gold account. Meaning you can play with a free Silver account.

The developer that figures it out... $$$$$$$$.

1) Voice chat would be the primary form of communication. For those in MMO guilds right now this is already normal.

2) I suppose it is possible that a controller could take care of the rest. I have no idea how, without overly simplifying the game, but that's why I'm not a dev.

Yea I thought of the headset, but that only works in small groups, or maybe in a guild or raid group at the largest... and then only if people are cooperative in shutting the hell up when they don't need to talk.... there is a lot of chatter though in multiple channels... area chat, out of character chat, world chat, people buying/selling goods, etc.... you couldn't possibly have all that with headset. I suppose you COULD do it if you reduced the distance that you could "hear" people from and if you could easily switch between multiple channels, but you couldn't monitor multiple channels at once. You really need some typed communication too 🙂

It's inevitable, the customer base is so large & the amount of revenue MMOs pull in is very high compared to pretty much any other type of game.

You would just have to be smart about communication. Obviously there wouldn't be any kind of seriously used open 'trade' channel. Unless they limit how often you can speak into that channel, say once every 5 minutes (old MUD rule to cut down on lag) to peddle your wares. Buyers could then invite the seller to a private chat to work out the details. Or obviously it could be strictly AH based which would work just as well.

Of course we're still thinking one-track minded here by assuming buying/selling is even necessary. City of Heroes/Villains would be a better model to follow for consoles. There is no 'equipment' persay, at least there wasn't when I last played. You basically looted items that you could use yourself to improve your stats. I believe you either used them, sold them, or destroyed them. This is the most likely scenario for a console imho.

I am super skeptical about this title on the 360. The game takes 30g on the PC. They really are going to have to trip it down to fit it comfortably on all those 360 Arcades who purchased puny 20GB HD upgrades for 100 bucks. Not to mention the game updates it will have.

The interface in FFXI wasn't designed with a mouse in mind. You're better off without it.
