In a new update for investors, Funcom has finally, officially revealed the pricing scheme for the upcoming Age of Conan.

According to the update, players will be plunking down $60 (?50) for a retail boxed copy and shelling out $15 (?13 plus VAT where applicable) per month to spend time in the Conan universe.

The update also makes mention of an upcoming "open" beta for the game. Beginning May 1, Fileplanet.com users will have a chance to become one of the 50,000 beta testers selected to assist in a stress test of the game.

The selection process has not been revealed, but presumably beta keys will be handed out at random to interested gamers.

Dude! $60 for entry and $15 to continue on?! Have they not heard of a particular other MMO called WoW (that is also fantasy based, so difference there) that's cheaper in both regards?

Although this might be a great looking game (on systems that can run it), I think this priceing scheme is a mistake. I think they need to help lure people in with a great product and by makeing the pricing very competative. So many MMOs have failed or withered away to only a few servers after consolidation in the wake of WoW.

edit: Doh! Wrong forum! 🙁

Maybe it'll be ?50 elsewhere (wherever that money symbol comes from 😛), but surely it'll be $50 here. They'd be stupid to try and charge $60 up front. PC gamers are much more finicky about their pricing then us console gamers.
