So, out of morbid curiosity I checked up on the AoC forums.

I was surprised at the overwhelming optimism. sounds like they have made huge progress since I canceled sub.

I did not read up on all the details, was curious if anyone here is playing it, as I would expect a more objective response here.

If anyone is familiar with AO, same thing happened....mass exodus but the game was much Improved and left with a smaller but better community.

everyone i know that wanted a change from WOW is testing the Runes of Magic waters at the moment... and even though the graphics arent the best, people really seem to dig it....

Runes isn't much of a change from WoW though. It's just a new world to explore for the most part. But it's an acceptable substitute in my opinion. :)

I'd be interested in hearing more, but I found the gameplay lacking back then. Almost like a MMORPG version of Quake. No death penalty just respawn and go out whacking again.

If they ever fixed that I may give it another try. I can't get into games where you just respawn like Quake with no consequences. Atleast not in an MMORPG.

Well with the amount of people they draw into the gaming world what else would people play?

I would actually like to see many more smaller MMOs that focus on smaller markets and satisfy their customers better.

I dont play MMO's because they bore me but theyre great. I dont know about blizzards finances but i strongly believe that the funds they made from WoW have allowed them to make 3 new starcraft games instead of just 1. Roll on WoW 2, it can pay for starcraft 3 :)

doesn't matter what they do. they had their chance and blew it. once that happens there isn't any hope.

I don't hang out with my old gaming buddies anymore because ALL they do is play Wow. It's almost as if they have a drug addiction, except its Wow.

It's one of the worse addictions at this time.

I here the same thing about Vanguard but trust me a lot of it is not even remotely true. The people left in games like Vanguard and AoC are the diehard players who would go down with their MMO of choice to the bitter end.
