Agarest: Generations of War Thread

Hearts on the intro vid killed it for me and made me close the window.

I started reading your post, but the word "hearts" at the beginning killed it for me so I stopped reading. 🙄

Seriously, you can't watch past the first 5 seconds of corporate logos to see the actual trailer?

The actual trailer didn't get any better when the music started. that said, I like well-made turn-based games, so this looks very interesting.

Not often we get JRPG's, let alone SJRPG's, on the PC. Buy it, support the movement! There's talks of them porting Lost Odyssey (YES) and potentially Disgaea.

Gave it a shot because I want an srpg, it looks pretty good so far... my only concern is the pre-order bonus', it unbalances the game greatly so I put it on hard and won't use them unless it gets too hard

I have all 3 agarest games on the console, thinking of rebuying this anyway, just to support it, so maybe we'll get more games on pc.

This reminds me though, I'm in the middle of the second generation on the 2nd game. And didn't start the third, since I wanted to finish the 2nd first. I should probably go back and play those one day.

What is an SJRPG? I just can't put a finger on what the S stands for. Southern JRPG? Simple JRPG?

I do really wish Lost Odyssey is ported.

I will have to check this game out when I get home. I missed the thread last month.

strategy; technically I should have put srpg and not sjrpg

I'd still buy it again. It was an extremely good JRPG.

I could never get into it. I think it was the weird circle-thing in the battle system and the way you walked around maps (the maps being static a lot). When it comes to Mistwalker, I liked Blue Dragon a lot more even with its faults.

It did have it's problems in strange angled cameras and static maps, but the story, skills, and overall battle system were top notch. The ring system was strange at first, but once you got used to it, it added a better element than just select [attack] and wait. Also, gave you an extra level of tactical planning depending on the area and monsters you were encountering.

I've actually tried playing it twice now. The first time I gave up because I couldn't beat the first boss, and I couldn't be bothered to grind levels. When I played it the second time, I did grind extra levels and still got whooped. I actually couldn't beat the boss until I read that you should use items for healing because unlike magic spells, items are cast immediately. I would normally lose characters while waiting for a heal. :\

Yeah, the first boss (the bird thing I believe) is one of the harder bosses. I can only think of a few others that were harder (and it was because of a forced party split...).

Update: put in a little time in this between football games and it isn't too bad. It feels a lot like a portable game though. The mouse support is much better than I was expecting. I haven't made it too far, but the beginning is a bit linear (as with every JRPG in the history of JRPGs). Hopefully, the map opens up and I can explore some soon.
