Do you have a heat recovery unit on your air conditioner? We do, and since we use our air conditioner nearly 8 months of the year, we don't have to use a hot water heater during those months. 🙂 We have mostly fluorescent bulbs in the house/use natural light when we can. We haven't invested in the front loading washers, though. Still, we've done a lot of things to make our home/lifestyle 'green'.
LOL, I live on Vancouver Island (Victoria BC) 80 miles NW of Seattle, and don't have AC in my home like most home here. (Summer temperature here would hit 86-87 degrees F once every 10 years)
Hehe, well we love our snowbirds down here. We've got R-40 level insulation, double paned windows, and great big oak trees to help keep our home as efficient as possible. Right now, it's getting down to the low 60's at night, low 80's during the day. It will cool down a bit more in January and February, maybe enough for us to use the fireplace for a few days.

It is pretty easy for us to keep cool... wearing a minimum amount of clothing and making sure it is breatheable fabric helps a lot. Keeping your weight under control is important, too... we don't need extra 'personal' insulation in Florida! If I moved north, I would need to gain some weight. I get cold really easy.
