Again, I must inquire about corporate AV software...

Guys,

I need the following:
AV software that will run centrally from a domain controller and be installed on a database server and ten workstations...
I need to be able to update and scan the workstations directly from the DC and ease of use and reliability are definitely a huge plus.

When you make suggestions, please make it understandable as I'm not familiar with the corporate and enterprise products and the corresponding accessories/utilities...

Thanks in advance....

CA ETrust AV has something similar, I believe. Check it out. It doesn't run off the DC, but you can scan all workstations from an administrative console setup on any computer.

It's dirt cheap and has the smallest footprint of any AV software. It can be scanning and barely takes up any resources.

Although I don?t have much experience with it (so am not specifically recommending it) Norton has a Corporate Edition that will allow this type of functionality.

Just wanted to list another option.

SAV Corporate Edition or Mcafee Corporate Edition should suit you well, both are good products from what i hear.

McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i screenies and rambling commentary for your perusal. It can be centrally deployed, tasked, configured and updated using McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (my preference) or McAfee ProtectionPilot (the Barbie? ePO-wannabe). ePO can also manage other McAfee products (desktop firewalls, antispam, Rogue System Detection, etc) and even Symantec's corporate antivirus client.

I've used Norton, McAfee, Trend, and AVG; and CA blows them all away by a country mile in every regard.

I mean, geez, there are actually people recommending McAfee in this thread.

Have you used VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i? It is vastly better than the consumer version.

I've used centrally managed Symantec Anti-virus and like it very much. You can install client software, see virus history, schedule scans, and force scans all from the deployment server.

I've used McAfee at work and its pretty good, but not as good as Symantec. I highly recommend Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition.

McAfee's stuff is garbage - they are late with their anti-virus defs, their software can cause issues with several different ERP/MRP packages, and it's not the easiest thing in the world to administer, and it's generally much more expensive. Our contract with them expires this August, and we are evaluating other options right now.

Interesting thread, I have the task of finding a solution for a school board, so far I tried:

Mcafee protection pilot - can't handle more then 500 PCs, and the deployment/monitor works and sometimes it does not, not reliable enough
Mcafee EPO - similar issue as protection pilot
Sonicwall (security appliance with AV) too expensive - came up to like 20K per year or something like that.
