I helped repair a Kenworth that hit a horse in N.M. at speed. It bent the frame at the engine mounts. Squirrels with the rear tire of a M/C in 35mph turns is all I've managed.

I agree that the elk is much bigger, but around here, the typical deer is much more than 120 pounds.

Btw, people get killed when hitting deer... sometimes if the deer is struck just right, it goes up the hood (instead of into the radiator) and through the windshield, killing the driver or passenger.

Yeah, I almost got one last week on the way to work. Pure luck, as the deer actually turned and headed back off into the woods. Coming around a curve on Grange Hall Rd. They're in front of you before you know it.

It's legal to take it, at least in PA. I'd guess that the laws differ state to state. There was something in the newspaper about it recently - if you hit a deer and take it with for the meet, you must report it to the game commission. Then they send you a license that permits you to do what you already did. (sort of weird, but that's the way it works) And if it's a buck, you must turn in the antlers; deer antlers can apparently fetch a high price if sold on the open market, so I guess they want to discourage people from intentionally ramming deer with their car - no hunting license fee; maybe you could specially rig a car then with huge spikes on it to "collect" deer. Deer meet, antlers, and no hunting fees. :Q
