More damage than i expected. Looks like the power steering, both fans, fan clutch, water pump, and airbox all need replacing. You can see that the electrical fan is the plastic bits laying all over the engine bay. I cant tell if the hood is ok or not since it will not latch on either side.

I admit that the custom trimming does look good. Along with the high quality red paint and deer hair on my tire completes the ensemble. :D

If you wish to experience it yourself, watch this: http://www.infinitemile.com/random/DeerHit_1.wmv

As far as deer hits go, either you weren't going very fast, or your car did better than I'd expect.

I believe always. The hood releases are on the sides with a center catch.

I'll have to look at my mom's again. I know there's the stops on the corners, but never thought that the sides actually held it down. Maybe I just haven't been paying attention (even though we've replaced the engine after much abuse)

Edit: it does look like the top cross bar is bent, and most likely that's not letting the hood go down far enough.

Looks almost identical to my Ranger after I hit one about 7 years ago. I only needed a new bumper, grill and radiator though. Didn't hit the fenders or hood.

I hit it off centered. You can see where the body impacted the bumper and where the head hit the grill/AC Condenser/Radiator.

probably too late now, but the best venison is on the inside (duh... of course inside, but I mean, where the guts are) below the backbone - 2 straps of muscle = the tenderloin. :) I always keep a utility knife in the glove compartment just in case I hit a deer - the loins and tenderloins go home with me. (and, as a result, despite living in an area with one of the highest alleged deer densities in the state, I've never hit a deer.)

Deer are small, they don't do a lot of damage.

I try to be more thorough, I took out two elk at once.

My dad hit a buck with his truck. Poor thing was still alive so he finished it by stepping on its throat. Loaded up in the back, took it hme and we both clean it up. Had fresh venison the next few days. Very tasty

Dude the Mule deer here in colorado can get 150 lbs + you hit one of those going 75, not only is your car toast but you might be going to the hospital.

Of course deer CAN total a car, but a typical <120 lb deer vs a 1000 lb elk is a totally different game.

Cant argue with that. Speaking of which, driving to work this morning i saw a dead cow along side the road. I wonder who hit it and if they are ok. It was a big a$$ black angus that escaped from the pastrure, im sure the rancher is not to happy.

That doesn't change the fact that deer can still mess up a car pretty good. Elk, moose, and cattle just pretty much obliterate anything like it was a head on collision.

I love venison. If you hit a deer with your car, can you at least keep the deer meat? Or will you get a ticket for 'hunting' without a license?
