Been looking for a nice fast sedan and had it narrowed down to an M5/S6 and found a great deal on an '08 with 52k miles ($22k).

The biggest worry are the potential costs down the line, particularly the transmission and having the peace of mind to have that covered would be great.

Any suggestions on a warranty and if it's actually worth it?

That is a great price!

... I can't be much help other than to suggest maybe also looking at an IS-F. My boss has one with 115k miles on it and hasn't had to do anything but basic maintenance. I've had two IS's also (a 250 AWD and a 350) and both have been amazingly reliable... no issues at all.

.... When I was shopping I was below you as far as muscle, looking at S4, 335i, and IS350... the lexus reliability won out.

Definatley do a car fax and try to piece together the car's service history. 52k miles isn't high at all, but it's good to be sure that it has been well cared for so miles 80 to 120k aren't a nightmare for you.

Seems awfully low. For comparison, a '09 CTS-V is probably in the high 30's with that much mileage.

Yeah the AMGs depreciate like crazy to to maintenance scares and costly repairs, I'm going to try to get a PPI to make sure everything's in good shape but the car looks good at first glance.
