aftermarket Qi is too hard / not worth it

Bluboon makes a nice adapter.

even with my LG G2's monstrous 3000maH battery, sometimes apps have power bugs or waste CPU power.

Because of this, I still occasionally want to quick charge / plug in.

In order to do that, I have to remove the phone TPU case (very hard / it's a good case) and unplug the Qi receiver from the USB port. Which is inconvenient.

I also find it undesirable to have to think about whether I should leave my phone on the Qi charger (if I'm downstairs, for example, watching netflix), or whether the battery will 'make it'.

So what I'm really saying is phone batteries still aren't large enough. Considering I can readily make use of 7.5hrs screen on time (usually by 11pm and the phone is dying), we need a bit more-- so, 9-10 hours.

Finally, the aftermarket Qi receiver implementations aren't perfect yet. This on/off charging is undesirable. It might just be a problem with the cheap Chinese chargers I have-- the best one I had I gave to a friend. Again, perhaps I need to spend more, but I've yet to get more than 700ma out of the wireless charging-- except for this one time on my Nexus 5 when it was charging at 1A...I think that might have been on the other charger I gave away though.

I agree with that for the USB ones. For my Galaxy S4, adding in Qi is just slipping in a pad inside the cover over top the battery and doesn't inhibit the use of NFC or the USB port.

Yet another example of how "newer and better" phones aren't.

Yeah, I just spent $12 on a qi sticker for my G4 that sticks to the inside of the battery cover. 5 minute fix. This is more of an issue with sealed phones and the fact that you are on the thing for almost 8 hours of screen time. That's a hell of a lot of phone use.

very nice, I wish I had that option.

this doesn't interfere with NFC

not that that matters.

seems most everyone else (HomeDepot) turned off NFC as soon as CVS and RiteAid did.

it's only once in a while. Usually those days are when I'm watching Netflix reading stuff on the internet at the same time, writing new Tasker scripts, ebay'ing etc.

That's one of the reasons I want a 5.7" screen, I nearly don't utilize my PC anymore

well hey, check this out, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wireless-Ch...-LG-G2-D800-D801-D802-D803-D805-/371206002705

perhaps one exists for me too

aftermarket qi that can run off battery contacts are good, but as you saw, giving it control over the usb port is troublesome cause there are always instances you will want to use that port. Especially since qi charges so slow.

Qi aftermarket is not really a market qi is looking to form however. They would much rather it be part of the phone. It is up to us to create the demand though.

qi isn't good enough to rally behind. I'll tolerate it but I won't bother trying to convert

Uhh, if its built in it is a feature that sacrifices nothing. Only an idiot would say no. It cost almost nothing to add too.

For now. Noone is going to buy into that CurrentC bullshit so eventually they will allow it once it starts hurting their bottom line. It isn't large enough to impact them now, but I switched from CVS to Walgreens when they did that.

I am curious how the new fast wireless charging from samsung on the Note 5 and S6 edge+ works, I have a note 5 on pre-order and it should be here monday. I will have to see about getting a wireless fast charger to try it out and see just how fast it really charges.

At this rate, CurrentC will be a disaster before it even launched. Best Buy, Rite Aid and others are already planning to introduce (or in some cases, reintroduce) NFC payments, since the exclusivity contracts are already ending. Wouldn't be surprised if CVS and other holdouts adopt NFC by the time CurrentC is ready... assuming it isn't scrapped by then.

I'm reminded of what Apple said about previous payment systems (like Softcard and Google Wallet) when it launched Apple Pay: CurrentC won't succeed because it's designed for the benefit of the companies, not the customers. Apple Pay and its follow-ups (Android Pay and Samsung Pay) are likely to thrive precisely because they're designed to ease payments, not scoop up data.

Goodenough, wireless charging. It needs minimal electronics, just a place to put the flat pack with the coil.

Commodus, I've been using currentC as a testing target TM. No idea what all the hate is. We get 3 forms of discounts so its really nice to not need all 3 (or any of them) when making a purchase. I don't have/use any other eWallet payment systems though. I use my target card so it is protected by target, you know for all those times scammers do their shopping at target with other peoples target cards. -_-

hate?

direct link to your bank account serious security issue.

they stopped accepting NFC payments. So phone doesn't work. Or the integrated NFC on my credit card.

Soccer, yea I probably wouldn't touch the direct link. Mine links to my red card, so un authorized purchases would be easy to follow up on. I mean which payment processor would you trust? I only have one that has access to my bank account and that is paypal.

I didn't know it used nfc, it always worked using 3d bar codes for me which imo is better, having a method of transmitting access that I can't see is worse in a way.

Yeah, the rigged up junk version soccerball is trying would make me think it's crap as well.

Built-in (at the very least, have the contacts so it can be added easily) and a good set of quality chargers scattered around are the way to go. Bonus points for multiple devices capable of using it. Bedside (office desk also?) stand is great also.

Jeff, as I recall the problems with CurrentC go something like this:

not true financial institution controls/protections - when you have a problem with Target now, who are you going to complain to? Oh...Target.

Obviously, they know you, your shopping and preferences, etc etc. Privacy thus far hasn't seemed to be a big concern for these entities. Not like medical/financial institutions *never* get hacked, but the laws/regulations/PENALTIES seem to make it a far more rare occurrence than everywhere else.

I forget what else, but that seemed to cover it: give the companies I shop at direct access to my account, make them the one to "resolve" the problem when I have a problem...with them, and trust them to keep a database that hopefully isn't in cleartext at www.currentc.com/DBASE.TXT - oh, wait a second...

*searches for JeffMD's debit card in the database*

I have one on the battery ports of my S5. One of the bases quit after just 4 or 5 months. The other one constantly beeps and tell me it charging like it's constantly losing the connection.
