Aftermarket head units

So what has the theft rate been like on these things and for those of you who have gotten an aftermarket head unit with a giant screen and what measures have you taken to protect it from thieves carrying crowbars and screwdrivers?

I was looking into getting one when I realized that there is little to no protection for it.
The last time I changed the head unit in my old car, it at least had a detachable face plate so that I had some sort of security with the mutually assured destruction/uselessness of the stereo if it did get stolen without the face plate.
Although now I've noticed that the whole detachable face plate thing is gone now and the headunits have also gotten a whole lot more expensive. I see that Eclipse still has some sort of anti-theft system in place like I remember, but i'm almost certain that not everyone goes out to buy Eclipse head units either.

I've got a Clarion with 7" touchscreen that has a detachable face. I just close the screen, remove the face, and enable my alarm.
