Afterburner and RivaTuner Statistics Server

Does Afterburner "need" Rivatuner Statistics Server (RTSS) for anything?

I uninstalled the latter, and the former seems to work just fine.

Reason I ask: Ever since installing a very recent version of Afterburner, RTSS throws up this error message box: "R__T__S__S__ cannot connect to Update Server."

I could either trace down the cause of this and go through hoops such as I've seen suggested on other forums, or simply delete something if I don't need it.

It does provide on screen info of GPU/CPU load/temps etc while you play a game,if you don't need you don't need it.
I like having the info and only turn it off in really good games for the immersion.

There were features in the release notes suggesting some facility for capturing or recording game play, but my games do that by themselves.

Afterburner provides the other information if you expand it to produce the separate window of all chosen measurements. If I wanted to look at that information during game-play, the windows of graphs stays "on top" and you can move it out of your virtual field of vision.

But if you say I don't need RTSS if I don't need it, then I'll leave it uninstalled.
