Not exactly sure how to start this thread so here goes...

I purchased a msi oc edition and i have run across a issue that has me nearly wanting to pull my hair out.

Stability wise 12.2 has been great with BF3,Crysis 2 the core clock tends to drop to 501mhz out of the blue in game.

Main issue is i use msi afterburner and i'm thinking its a ab issue but in game in BC2 usually i have the core and mem clocks posted, sometimes i see these go both to 0,and every time after that when i exit the game, the screen blackscreen hardlocks and a hard reboot is my only escape.

I tried to hit power limits to 20%,i shut off ccc.exe i even upped the vcore thinking perhaps its undervolted so am i missing something as i think i covered all the bases.

Edit:Gonna try out 12.3 drivers ,has anyone had good luck with these?

It's a problem with Punkbuster for BC2 and Afterburner. They don't get along well.

I've noticed windows media player will drop clocks down to throttled levels at times. Also, disable "apply overclock at startup" in afterburner. CCC will apply the OC for you, once you enable it in afterburner.

From what i am getting at,afterburner is the problem so i removed it.

Right after i jumped onboard 12.3 i loaded up BC2 after a reboot, within 20 secs of joining a server and spawning i saw those clocks drop to 0mhz on the OSD,i knew it was gonna hardlock on me so i attempt to open up task manager, the screen goes black into another hardlock so i reboot and remove ab.

Any tips for settings in ccc as far as overclocking goes or the power control settings?I got the settings at stock factory of 0% for power control and my core is back at 1010 and my fanspeed at 45%.

Afterburner does not work with CCC 12.2. You should be able to get 1125 easily, just use manual fan 45% or higher within overdrive. Powertune probably isn't necessary.

Personally i'm still using the AMD RC11 driver, Afterburner has not been updated for CCC 12 yet.

I will try msi afterburner 2.1 with rc11 and report back.

Couple months back i was using msi afterburner with a 6750 and a 6790 as well with no issues so its def a driver and msi afterburner issue.

Is rc11 as stable as 12.3?Only issue i recently had was when my monitor went to sleep with the pc on and when it woke up,i found ccc.exe had crashed that very moment as well.

Yeah i know there isn't a cherry driver for the 7000 series as of yet but curious is all.:)

Rc11 works great here.

Afterburner will work with RC11, just be *sure* to disable apply overclock at startup. Run afterburner with the -xcl argument, put your OC in, and then reboot but ensure that the apply overclock at startup is disabled.

CCC will apply any OC that you put into afterburner on reboot. (you must use the -xcl option though)

When i installed rc 11,ccc.exe already applied my oc from the 12.3 drivers i had before and overdrive was enabled with the same settings as 12.3 and when i rebooted msi afterburner 2.1 which i just installed picked up the oc in ccc.exe without that apply at startup option applied.

Jumped on two rounds without zero issues but unless i am missing something else, how exactly do you do the -xcl argument or based off my experience just now is everything fine?It appears to be so far.

The -xcl argument enables extended clocks beyond 1125/1575. Just run it like that once to extend clocks, and then extended clocks will be available in both CCC and afterburner.

Oh,its a way to get higher clocks,nice.

How far should the 7970 go on stock voltages anyways?

Not adding voltage and stuff to my card till i replace my power supply and motherboard in a few weeks, that's when i plan to open up both the 7970 and my 2500k.

Currently at 1050/1450.

Every single 3rd party OC proggy I have tested suck balls. Even the ones from the manufacturer of my cards.

IMHO your better off OCing through CCC. For voltage increase you can use ati overvolt utility which is supposedly realeased only for press, but if you look enough you can find it. I have it :)

Been using msi afterburner since the purchase of a gtx280 back in 2008,its always been reliable for me.

Guess i learned the latest drivers for video cards don't always mean they will work with your latest apps but ab 2.1 and rc 11 work hand in hand now so just a matter of time before another ab release,so i could roll with 12.3 or whatever is up next.
