Last night xp pro would not boot , so I did a repair off the XP cd. During the repair I got messages that a couple wierd files could not be found, one was a tape drive file?????

I have a Matrox g450 but when I run the install prog it says there are no matrox products on the pc. The only listing I can find for it is as vgasave in monitor properties. How can I get rid of this and install my g450?? When I go into device manager there is no listing for any video adapter, I am really lost
thanks

Also every boot up it defrags system files , how do I stop this?

The tape drive driver error is nothing to worry about. I've run into that one. It's a bug. Don't worry about it, it won't affect you.

The reason you can't install the video card driver is probably because you haven't re-installed the motherboard drivers. After a repair install you MUST install ALL your drivers starting with the mobo drivers. Right now Windows is using generic drivers for the mobo dvices, but since you haven't got the proper AGP Bridge drivr installed, it's not detecting the video card.

Install your mobo drivers, then install the latest video, audio, and NIC drivers.

ALSO, after a repair install, you will need to run Windows Update to get all the latest patches re-installed. A repair install resets you back to whatever version of Windows is on your CD without any updates.

Hope this helps...

Thanks

I did install sp2 and do all the updates but it is not showing updates for my hardware, it usually always did.

I did install the via package. When I go in device manager the via agp 2/3 bridge has a problem. I think that is stems from the repair since I remember it asking for some agp/video file.
