It's obvious he never made the film he wanted to. We fell in love with it anyway. If you get a chance to watch the documentary (2.5 hrs) do so.
 
Han Solo fired first!

Lucas might be wearing a brain slug now, but no way he can credibly claim that change was needed to fix a bad special effect or make the ewoks extra-fluffy.
