Are you supposed to boot off the DVD drive again, or the hard drive?

If I boot off the DVD drive, it invites me to reinstall. If I boot off the hard drive, it just says "Verifying DMI Pool".
 
1 hard drive connected.

1 stick of ram installed.

set the boot CD/DVD then HD.

on reboot boot to the hd.
