After the new vBulletin forum software, there should be some slack

Some moderator I've never even seen post gave me an infraction for not having my email in my profile. I've been a member here since 2005 and I'm not sure why my profile is hidden... considering the software change I think a little note would have sufficed without giving me an infraction. That is so lame.

Infractions at this time should be considered a tap on the shoulder by a Moderator.

so many different forums I'm not sure how long they stay or how many you need here... can you tell me where those answers are?

Thanks

That's not what I asked for. I know how to make my email visible. Also, I noticed in that thread that I'm not alone regarding the stupid infractions.
You're not the first person to post about it in FI. You should get another infraction for reposting...

There are stickies and announcements at the top of their respective forums. Many of these have been stuck at the top for users to review since the change over. IMHO, There is no excuse for not reviewing these and there has been plenty of time to do so.

I agree, but with one caveat. Since I spend so much time here and have read most other stickies, I tend to ignore them now unless I'm looking for something. Especially because of the recent comical announcements at the top of the page. Either way, I'm not selling anything here at the moment. I cleared my thread since I can't delete it.

I've been here almost 10 years and I don't think I've ever bothered to read any rules stickies lol..

There's your 1st mistake.

There's a reason they are STICKIES instead of regular threads. Everyone should read through them every now and then.

Why not rename the stickies in forums like FS/FT so they state, "Hey, first time visiting since the change of software? Read the stickies, they contain new information!" Or use the welcome message to do the same?

Meh, heed the Message, make the change, quit whining about it, and get on with Life.

All this thread does is make you look like a Putz.

Can someone tell me:
1) if you make your profile visible, and include your e-mail in your profile, does it make your e-mail visible to the web at large?
2) why would we need to do this? Is this only for participating in FS/FT, or all of AT?
3) Do you still need to list your location in your profile for FS/FT? I cannot find that setting in vB.

Edit: I found the setting for location, it doesn't say on the profile page that that is required for FS/FT, is it still?
I did find where it wants you to enter a public e-mail for FS/FT, I guess that's only if you want to participate in FS/FT, right?
My profile privacy settings have defaulted to "Everyone", is this normal? Can spammers harvest my e-mail address off of these forums?

your profile is only visible to logged in and registered users I believe.

your FS/FT email and profile is required for FS/FT

yes, you should list your location. It's in your profile, see mine for details. Edit your details -> additional information -> Where you live

You should maybe try to consider things from our perspective. Getting an 'infraction' is sort of insulting. So you changed the forum software. No problem. So now we need to make some changes to our User CP in order to post. Again no problem.

But instead of closing my thread with no warning and leaving me a threatening PM in my inbox, how about just a friendly PM saying - "here's a link, check the new rules and edit your User CP''?

Don't you think we'd be happy to comply?

All this crap about 'I expect you to read the stickies and all the new rules and there's no excuse' kind of reminds of me of my Dad talking to me when I was 8.

Maybe you should reconsider how you're interacting with your longer term members. You know, the ones that make the site work?

It goes both ways, if you are a responsible adult you should take the time to read the rules/stickies and comply.

As has been stated multiple times in multiple threads an infraction means nothing, it is, as old stated below "Infractions at this time should be considered a tap on the shoulder by a Moderator". That is all.

Honestly after the dozens and dozens of notices the mods have had to send out for this, I'm surprised they are still as cordial as they are. :D

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

Thanks for the reponse, KT. In my case, I drew a mod who believes he's Roger Ramjet - one of these guys who maybe hasn't got the power he feels he deserves in real life and has found a way to talk to people as if he's General MacArthur. I guess that influenced my comments, but I also think it's bad business to alienate your long term members, whom I assume are the ones that drive the business.

With regard to the idea that I'm making a 'mountain' out of it... seriously? Because I posted in this thread? In my view, your comment is making a mountain out of a molehill!

With regard to the suggestion that I'm not a responsible adult... how I wish there was a magic portal that could open up and reveal which of us is the more responsible adult, which of us carries the greater responsibility. Too bad I won't live to see that bit of tech.

So as you can see, we have a slightly different perspective on this.

EDIT: I notice you have 20,000+ posts here in the same time that I have 373. Hmmm... you seem to have a bit more spare time than I do. Nevertheless, I'm sure you take all your responsibilities quite seriously.

: )

I was not sugggesting you are not a responsible adult, I know nothing about you so cannot even say if you're an adult at all! :D I was only going off your comment about feeling like an 8 year old and to avoid that, just be responsible and read/follow the rules.

As for making a mountain out of it, well I still think you are. It's really not a big deal. It's far more work for the mod to ensure these things are being done than it is for the member to just read and comply I'm sure.

Anyway, there is not much else to say on this. You feel slighted for whatever reason and I do not see it as an issue. If someone else disagrees, they can post here.

Happy holidays to you and yours! :)

I posted after a long while here and wasn't aware that I had to make changes to my account [by implication this obviously means that I didn't read anything, just logged in and posted. To suggest that you didn't know I didn't read the stickies/rules is, in my view, disingenuous at best]

I was not suggesting you are not a responsible adult
Wouldn't it be great if real life worked this way, where you could accuse, get called out for it, and then simply say 'I never said that'.

I guess your world, and the responsibilities that go along with it, are slightly different than mine.

All the best for the holiday season.

That's fine, but I still was not suggesting it in general, I just meant in this case and as a counter to your original assertion that maybe you were not acting that way.

Obviously you think you are the most responsible adult in the world. Good for you. I think you are being far too sensitive. :D

Oh, man. That is very weak. Even for the holidays when you might be overfed and overwatered.

If you could post a link where I said or implied that, it would be helpful. Since I said or implied no such thing, I won't hold my breath. You suggested that I'm not a responsible adult (and please don't embarrass yourself by trying to deny it ['in this case' or 'in general' or whatever weak ass qualifier you want to put in there to obscure the evidence], or else delete the post in which you said it and then deny it). I countered by suggesting that I have more responsibilities than you, and that's something of which I'm 99.99% sure. The fact that you have the spare time to post here 24,567 times over the same period of time when I posted 374 times, and the fact that you decided to get into a flame war with an online internet personna is fairly compelling circumstantial evidence.

In any case, as I said, have a great holiday season and best of luck in the new year.
