After switching back from a Radeon to a GTS2 Ultra I have to admit Geforce 2D is crap!

Win2k is just crapola for gaming. You should have stuck with the oldest possible OS that supports Dx8, Windows 98. Too many games do not play well in "Winblows y2K" to justify the switch.

Crap 2D? Well what kind of applications are you judging it from? I use CAD sometimes with my GeForce DDR never tried a Radeon before but I am pretty satisfied with the 2D quality.

The best :( way to find out the quality of geforce 2d is just simply replay a radceon with a Geforce on the same crt!
Damm hope the NV20 has better 2D

Is NVidia even aware that there is a general majority of their users who thinks their cards' 2D quality is one big piece of cow dung? Well they better get their act together and produce Matroxsque-quality 2D for NV20!

wow... Hardware... haven't seen you in a while...

i think for that very reason i'm not going to try replacing my geforce for a while, i might feel like returning to it when i want to play a game or something and be just terribly disappointed.

maybe nvidia will step up and specifiy a higher minimum standard for the boards nv20 runs on. its not the geforce's 2d thats bad, the quality from the chip is just fine, its the manufacturer using low-grade parts.

Well for tax reasons I had to buy an ultra! anyway I will buy the NV20 in march but I dont like ghosting on aany highend $$$ gfx card !!!
I though ASUS had the best Geforce 2D quality but for 1600x1200x32x85 on a 22" crt its simply not good enough!
I will try some games if its stable (when I see some lookups its going back)

Who told you that steaming pile of cow dung??? Win2k runs all my games as good and as fast as Win98 (if not faster).

3dfx 4500 was a winner V5500 was crap
maybe its pure luck how good is your 2d quality!

Hah! calling win2k crap for gaming. Maybe ATI just writes crap win2k drivers, since nvidia drivers can pump out framerate that kicks it out in win2k.

But yes, Nvidia 2d is garbage compared to most, which is so sad, since otherwise, they'd be the undisputed vid champ. (well, maybe better dvd decoding would be nice too).

Oh and I dont have a Ultra its a pro (200/400)@(250+/475+)
(to say it correct 2d is not bad with my V7700 but I can see some ghosting (at 1600x1200x32x85) and its not crisp like the radeon)
With ATi unable to deliver drivers and no other t&l card out there (I dont think we can see any g800 in this year) is hard to avoid Nvidia

Running an ELSA Geforce DDR here... 2D is crisper than anything I've had before - INCLUDING the Voodoo3-3500TV!

Hmmmm... Anyone here use a Voodoo 3 for gaming in Windows 2000?

In benches Windows 2000 is slightly slower with my Voodoo 3 2000 and Celeron 880. I didn't think I'd notice it but it seems that they are even more slower at the most complex times (ie. complicated rocket arena map with 12 players). Well, at least for Glide, because I only play Unreal Tournament. Haven't played Quake III in ages. However, I've stopped booting into Windows 98 for games just because it's a hassle and have decided to just deal with it. (I've dropped the texture levels a tad to compensate.)

As for 2D, I've avoided nVidia cards just for this reason. Seems like a crap shoot judging by the reports for 2D quality on this BBS.

EDIT: I agree with bluemax though. The Voodoo 3 2D at 1600x1200 isn't that great. (I haven't tried BNC cables though.)

Hardware:
I don't think it's luck. Everyone in here with a Elsa Card says that the 2D is extremly crisp, everyone in here with a Visiontek Card says it's crisp. But if you think it's luck.

With the other cards it maybe luck but not with the Elsa and Visiontek cards.

What's wrong with you Hardware? I'm away from the forums for a little while only to find out that you seem to be making a complete 360 or is this some sort of trick to start an "ATI sux" flame war?

I assume you didn't try the last two leaked drivers for Radeon. They're within 10% of the 9X and superbly stable.

Lol, I can't believe he's saying this.

Just got my Radeon today and I have to admit the 2d is great. Slightly sharper than my Voodoo 3, and far sharper than the TNT2 in my other machine.
