After some frustration with the quality of light in my room, I decided to go to Home depot

I got frustrated with my ceiling fan light in my room because it gave off that hard-to-read-in yellow light. I went to Home Depot and picked up some of these light bulbs.

GE reveal 100 (creystal clear) bulbs, 1300 lumens, 100 watts, 750 total hours

I was looking for a powerfull, super bright, clear as can be light bulb. These looked like the best ones they had.

what do you guys think? Any other bulbs I should consider?

I've worked in the advertising/print industry for many years, and I can't adequately describe the impact of color temperature on reading comfort/color perception/etc.

Those are good bulbs - as good as I can recommend without getting silly on the pricing.

That said, I've switched most of my house - except my office and kitchen - to those low power, long life fluorescent bulbs in the interest of energy and cost efficiency. I just replaced the first ones I bought 6 or so years ago. There are some newer ones that are much improved in terms of color temp and responsiveness when first turned on.

Tell me more about these silly priced bulbs. Im willing to spend some money on bulbs if the difference is clear, no pun intended :p

I have some "daylight" compact florescent bulbs that I got from wal-mart, they are much better than anything I bought anywhere else.

I use a fixture similar to this at my desk, and for larger stuff, the office has a couple booths similar to this.

What you're looking for is 5000K bulbs; I don't think the fluorescent bulbs in the fixture here are standard, but you might be able to get them (or something that will perform similarly) at a normal lighting store. In my admittedly somewhat limited purchasing experience on light booths and boxes, you often get what you pay for in both the fixture and the bulbs. A good fixture will be pin-drop silent (cheap ones can buzz or put out a very high pitched tone... great if you're into migraines) and the combination of a good bulb and fixture will produce zero (detectable) flicker. Unfortunately, the flicker can/will be tough to see until you use it for a while, and the same can apply on the noise.

In terms of brands, I don't think I've ever seen a Graphiclite box crap out.

edit: As I alluded to above and as swtethan mentioned, 'daylight' is the marketing term for 5000K bulbs and in the last couple years the fluoresents have made huge strides in getting better color - originally fluorestent tubes were/are WAY too cool/blue in color, and incandescents were WAY too warm/yellow. The first fluorescent (socket) bulbs were one extreme or the other but have now started to get better. The reveal bulbs you got are good, but have limited life and higher energy comsumption typical of incandescents.

The bottom line? I'd try the cheaper alternatives first, and they'll likely work for you. If not, buy a few bare fixtures and got some 5000K tubes and you're off to the races.

I would say you should stick to your original choice if saving power is of no concern to you.

Flourecent lighting... just doesn't sit right with some people's eyes. I have no problem with it, but a lot of people complain to me at my house that the lighting seems "Dim". I'm using one of those "100 watt" equivalent energy saving flourecent lighting bulbs yet people always complain it doesn't seem bright enough in the room.

Yet when I switch to a 40 watt incadescent (Spelling?), people immediately say it's bright again.

Just throwing out a suggestion if you're a type of person who hasn't been exposed to giant amounts of flourecent lighting.

I bought a few of these high quality ultra white (day light white) flourescent bulbs from some Chinese electronic stores a while ago. They're 20W energy saving lamp bulb that you can screw into any existing lamp. These bulbs give out the whitest possible output out of any bulbs i've seen; they're as white as those day light linear flourescent bulbs. The only setback is that these bulbs are $15 each. I bought 2 and I'm still using the first bulb after over a year of regular usage; they last long. It's Corso brand which I doubt you can find in any Home Depot, nor can I find a link using google.

Fluorescents FTW

I don't understand those people who don't like it. It definitely looks different (since it's really just 2 wavelengths of light combining to look like white). It doesn't mean the light is of less quality, you can still use it just as well as any other kind of light bulb. If people think it's too dim, they'll just have to bright flashlights :p

I used those bluish tint bulbs that seems to give off a whiter light than the yellowish light from the regular white bulbs.

We just switched our reading lamps to reveal.. They REALLY brighten up the room with NATURAL looking light.. No yellow hue... Next trip to HD or Lowes I am buying enough to replace all the lights in our home.
