Here is my current build in progress:

Asus P5GD2 Deluxe Mobo (24 PIN)
Antec TrueControl 550 W (20 PIN) Specs indicate 30A on the 12V rail.
GeForce 6600GT
P4 630J CPU
120 SATA HD
2 x 512 PC4200 (Crucial)

Any problems with the PSU having only 20 pins and the Mobo having 24?

Should I return the PSU and get on that has the 24 PIN connector, if so which is a recommended model.

I'm thinking it is better to just get a 24 PIJ PSU since I'm buying a new one anyways? Please let me know what a good choice would be for my system...

Thanks
Domer

Yes but the converters are more pain the help...with the converter you are creating a false 4 extra pins which puts more power onto your wires than is speced out....generating heat...I know you can hook up a 20 pin PSU to a 24 pin mobo as long as your amps on the single 12V rail are high enogh. at 30 i'd say I'm good to go, but since Im buying the PSU anyway, should I go ahead and exchange this for a 24 pin model. If so, what's a good choice?

Thanks

Hi, The extra four pin plug just duplicates wires already in the 20 pin plug. It's done in lieu of using heavier wires into the 20 pin plug to beat the IR loses in the wires. No problem with using an adapator to do the same thing. You can run with only 20 pins, but if you OC you may find that you need the adaptor. If the adaptor just plugs onto one of the 4 pin Molex plugs from the power supply it might be a good idea to use one that has nothing else connected to it if possible. Jim

A good 24 pin can be found at directron.com. I run an SPI FSP550 60PLN 24 pin PSU. 79 bucks, and worth a whole lot more. The FSP unit is rated at 50C. Zippy/Emac are alos top-notch, but are more expensive. PC Power and Cooling are without bad reviews, and also have a couple 24 Pin in a reasonable proce range.
