after power goes out apc backups 300 won't shut down win2k
using both powerchute, and the ups program provided in win2k,
it shows that the power is coming from batter after power is down
it won't show how much batter power i have left.

The Back UPS 300 can only utilize a portion of the PowerChute program. It will not show battery strength per se. You also have to wait for PowerChute to shut down the system. It only initiates this AFTER it detects a low battery condition. This would be shown by the green area above the battery icon in your system tray turning red after several minutes. After this happens it starts the countdown to shut down the system. Have you left it alone for an extended (several minutes) period of time to see what happens?
Also, make sure you have the latest version of the PowerChute software, v. 5.0.2. You must have the correct cable also. A regular serial cable will not work. You need a "Simple signaling cable", their part number 940-0020. Good luck!

thank you, i'll try that,
one other question, if it can't detect the power of my battery,
how does it suppose to konw the battery is low on power?
cause i am afraid that if i leave it on too long then the power would just go out...

I may not have been clear on this. The Back UPS CAN detect low battery strength, however it will not use the part of the PowerChute program that gives you a bar graph showing current power levels. If your house power goes out, it will monitor your battery. After a few minutes when the battery gets low, the PowerChute program will shut down your system. You will see this begin when the green area above the battery icon in your sytem tray turns red (low battery). No problems there. This is all contingent upon your having the right cable and the current version of PowerChute.
