After net update, office 2000 only loads for 1 sec and then shuts itself down. Weird.

MS Windows 98 first edition, fully patched online (fresh install on a reformatted drive and patched in the last couple of days).

MS Office Pro 2000.

I install Office Pro 2000. Works fine. I then do the internet Microsoft Update for Office 2000. Patch is successful it says but when I load a program it loads up the Window and then promptly shuts itself down.

The only way around it was to uninstall it and reinstall the original disc, without the updates. What gives?

Asus P2B (BX)
Celemine with MSI slocket
SB Live (although the drivers weren't installed at the time).
Zip drive (USB)
D-link 528 Network card for my DSL, using Access Manager 1.4 from Sympatico
56 K ISA modem USR Sportster (but drivers weren't installed)
Voodoo 3.
Agfa 1212U Scanner
BlackICE defender (uninstalling it makes no difference).

This is really annoying.

i think that happen to me also. After I patched successfully, my PP and Excel would start and shut itself off and I was back to my desktop. I reinstalled without the patch and all is well.

Don't know what to tell ya.

I remember seeing something at the microsoft site about having the latest version of windows installer in order to install the SR-1 patch. I ordered it on cd and it installed fine. Is your patch on cd or downloaded from the site?

I installed the latest installer and the latest patch from the website.

I just tried the same SR-1 patch with Office 2000 under Windoze 2000 (SP-1 patched) instead of Windoze 98. Same damn thing. :| So for both Windoze 98 and 2000 I am just running the CD version of Office 2000, without the online patch update.

Weird.
