I am able to log into winxp pro using EITHER account.. but all i get is a BLANK screen! i disconnected all the drives and only left my raid 0, 30 gb each = total 60GB C drive and one CD drive.

i dont have a start bar or any icons. but i can hit ctrl alt del and get task maanger. i can see processes. but nothing else! i tried running explore.exe and it says invalid win32 application.

explorer.exe

Have you tried safe mode? Last known good? Recovery console repair?

Once you get to the desktop, various windows processes keep loading. At a certain point the icons are supposed to pop up----clearly something isn't being found between the desktop and the icons loading---so you have a iconless screen and a crippled PC.--so John has it right---safe mode---step by step logging is where you will find out where it screws up.---once you know what is missing---you can fix it by adding what is missing from your windows install disk.

You can also use dos to check if msconfig.exe is preventing some process from loading---a firewall or other software setting could do the same.

And a virus may have eaten whatever you needed---and if so--is the root cause that will need to be fixed.

Definitely try a Repair Install of Windows
You will not lose your data that way.

I tried using repair, but it goes to DOS prompt. Am I doing something wrong? How do i get to the right repair and not just the console?

Thank you.

thanks, i'll try that..

i ended up buying a 500 GB drive (sata) and then reinstalled winxp.. and setup the 60 GIG (raid 0) as a secondary and now copying files off. i hate when i have hardware failures.. there have been so many lately.

i've partitioned it to:
c: 40 gb - OS
d: 4 gb - paging
e: 100 gb - prog files
f: 100 gb - games
g: 200 gb - media
h: rest of the HD for misc
