After installing Nero, my CDRW and DVD are gone...

I just installed it like I did many times before but this time after I booted into windows lo and behold my DVD and CDRW are gone from My Computer, but they are present in Device Manager with yellow excalamation marks and this comment: "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)." I have shuttle AK31A with XP 1600 at 1612 (140x11.5).

Windows XP Pro. I want to add that BIOS detects the devices and I can boot off them.

Yes, this is version 5.5.5.1.

hmm, bit lost here so can only suggest you try using Nero's wnaspi32.dll (by Ahead Software)

Very easy installation: just copy wnaspi32.dll to the %windir%\System32 folder or to your application directory (no need for reboot).
Download: ftp://ftp.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll

this is the article that you were indirectly pointing to but the error code here is 41 not 31!
unless Rahminator has erred on posting the error number!

Error codes are not always the same for same error.

A solution was found for almost exact same kind of issue. Doesnt hurt to try what other person did to fix his problem. Most likely it will work.

is your nero cracked?

when i cracked mine i used a bundled software crack and it refused to recongise my sony burner, i had to change to like regular crack and it worked normally.
