Hello,

I just purchased an Abit Geforce4 MX over the weekend and installed it. During initial bootup I got a series of beeps and NO video on my monitor. The beeps consisted of one beep, which was followed by three very quick beeps. The three quick beeps are the abnormal beeps. Now, I believe the problem is either the video card OR the fact that I only have an 185 watt power supply!! LOL I installed a 250 watt power supply with the same results.

I am running a PIII900, 512 ram, geforceII mx, SB 128 sound card, a cd burner, and a dvd player. My geforce II mx runs without any problems, but I kind of think that the problem is the power supply. But I would think the system should at least boot??? I don't know for sure so this is why I'm asking here. :)

Thanks

Chappie

That could be a problem, but then again it could not. It looks like your best bet though. If you have a GF2 running on it without trouble, I would say that it is the PS. It's not able to register the card, that's why it is not booting.

It may very well be your power supply. First thing I'd suggest is make sure your card does in fact seat properly into the slot.

Second, return the card and change it out for another of the same model just in case you managed to get a faulty card.

Third, if thats a no-go make sure your Mobo supports the MX card....it should I would think but there is always a chance it might not.

Finally check your PS....I don't know what the power requirements are for the MX GF4s but my TI4600 card recommends a minimum of a 300watt Power Supply.

Good luck

Chappie, I had that happen once when I updated the drivers on my video card, somehow the driver installation went screwey. Are you able to boot into safe mode?
